Cordless Drill Recommendations

    All, as title suggests, I’m looking at getting something to add to my tool collection. The only cordless thing I have is my Makita Combi drill which I purchased some years ago as a set with a 2 batteries & charger. The drill model is a BHP 453 LXT. I’m not a tradesman and only do DIY jobs around the home, though during lockdown I’ve been doing abit more, mainly outside. I’m wondering whether to look at Makita bare unit tools as I have an existing charger and batteries, or look at a different make?

    Would 12v tools be enough for general household tasks? I would like at some point do some decking & the Mrs wants me to do some pallet furniture, so I would like an Impact driver. I haven’t got a massive amount to spend, so let’s say £200. What would be considered good buys? Some questions I suppose,

    18v or 12v?
    Brushed or Brushless?
    Bare units or Twin kit?

    Any advice welcome,

    18 volt dewalt. Best in my opinion. Shop around for deals. The batteries cost the most. Try screwfix

    You'll get a makita impact driver for about £100 or less. If you already have 2 spare batteries, no brainer.

    Einhell are decent quality for the price. Currently £52 at Amazon for a drill with battery and charger. Batteries also fit their whole range of tools.

    Edit: Twin pack £145 at Toolstation. Einhell PXC 18V Cordless Combi Drill & Impact Driver Twin Pack 2 x 2.0Ah

    They are often on offer with free additional battery and charger packs at Wickes and Toolstation.

    Seen those in Toolstation. They do as a kit too.

    All my kit is Makita but a lot of tradesmen swear by Milwaukee drills...but if you already have charger and batteries as said above no brainer

    I am of that thinking TBH. I have seen a bare impact driver for £50 mark. Or a brushless one for £80ish.

    Same as Sparky, all my kit is Makita and i wouldn't go for anything else.

    Brushless are better but wether you'd notice the difference on limited home use is debatable

    Kids got me a Makita drill and impact driver set, best gift I ever got. Also the most expensive (for me); since I got that kit, I’ve bought a multi tool, jigsaw, SDS drill and an angle grinder. Oh, and now a couple of extra batteries (3rd party)

    18v if you want usable, brushless if you want to work them hard. But as you already have the Makita, you might as well carry on the collection.

    edit to add; my SoL is a joiner, all his gear is DeWalt, but his mentor used Makita, he says there’s pros and cons.

    That's what other half has the Einhell stuff. He tends to break a drill every 6 months cause he's a heavy user but he's liked Einhell. We have a few things from them and I bought him a dual pack of batteries not long ago

    Useful info - the Aldi Workzone stuff is Einhel, don’t know about the Ferex

    He's got a Makita SDS cabled drill that's over 10 year old and that's still going strong. They've always been a good make

    I have 18v riobi cordless drill. It’s decent for what I need it for. I have quite a lot of other Riobi stuff and pointless buying loads of different batteries. It’s decent stuff and affordable

    if I was just buying a drill I’d get Milwaukee which has been on offer at screw fix recently

    I've started collecting all the worx 20v kit. Got 2 drill drivers, jigsaw/reciprocating saw, small circular saw and sander
