At top lvl against Moldova macadonia and the rest of the Eastern European teams don't get me wrong he's scored against some top teams but it's not like it used to be
He didn’t deserve all the hype he constantly got - but to suggest he was a ‘bang average’ player is absolute tripe. He was much better than that. Bang average players don’t score hat-tricks in the champions league at the age of 18 on his club debut, or end up as the all time top scorers for both England and Manchester United. He wasn’t as brilliant as some made out, he certainly peaked in his early to mid twenties having come through so young, but he was at the very least a very, very good player. Not so great a husband or manager apparently though, granted.
Last day scenario. Both derby and Wednesday need 3 points to stay up. 97th min Wednesday lead 2-1, derby equaliser and they're both relegated!
I'm not a big fan of his, but this is just not true. He was a very good player up to his mid 20s, he then lost his acceleration and explosiveness and with it one of the things that made him a very good player.
Its a shame we didnt beat Coventry - then win tonight and we could afford to let Rotherham turn us over - unfortunately we do need to beat them on Saturday no matter what happens tonight now
We thought there had been a late goal in our favour at one of the other games - possibly for Forest, at Bolton? - and we started cheering. It turned out that the information was wrong. Dorbeh fans were singing: "You stupid bästards, you're still going down." I would love it if they dropped. It wouldn't give me quite as much pleasure as Wednesday going down, but I'd be delighted. If at least one of the fúckers is guaranteed to drop when they play each other on the last day - and Rotherham might yet sort themselves out, and exterminate both - it would be lovely. Ideal scenario: a draw relegates both.
I'd echo most of what has been said. He was a spent force as a front man around the age of 26, due to how many games he played when he was so young. He was still a decent midfielder for the rest of his career. His ability to place a ball on a sixpence was still there. Few great players make good managers & it surprises me not that he is unlikely to break the mould, as, with respect he isn't a great communicator. Instead of getting an education he was kicking a football. He'll find a role in the game I think, but not as manager. He might be better inspiring up and coming kids in the England set up. With the right support around him I think he would have a lot to offer. As for Derby, I hope they take the drop with Wednesday & Rotherham escape, but only after getting beaten by us. I like Rotherham & Donny. Proper local teams, that going back we had a good rivalry with, but they have suffered like we have, although we've overachieved them both from the 80's onwards largely due to good governance & a more passionate fan base.
