Good article in the Grauniad about FGR and about how their owner made his money and has made the club carbon neutral etc. One of the things highlighted is how he says “You have the most fun and most impact preaching to the unconverted". So how do we think a similar approach at Barnsley would work? Are we on the whole unconverted? There could be some interesting marketing opportunities to attract green sponsorship and almost any change to the current in ground catering would be an improvement. https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...a-green-revolution?CMP=Share_AndroidApp_Other
We use a company to make our programmes that send them out in single use plastic not a paper envelope so we've some way to go to get close to FGR. Plenty more about FGR here..... http://barnsleyfc.org.uk/threads/forest-green-rovers.301631/
Any move like this would have to feel authentic. Does it feel authentic for Barnsley to aim to be Carbon Neutral? It would take a few years but as a long term plan is fine, would be random and impractical to make widespread changes straight away and you’d run the risk of being accused of greenwashing. It’s the first and last thing Forest Green Rovers do every day. The organic pitch, the electric solar charged robot lawnmower, the water tanks that collect water for the pitch, the 100% vegan certification, the home shirt made out of bamboo, the new home shirt made out of coffee beans, and loads loads more. The stadium sponsorship with Innocent, partnerships with Oatly and Quorn, their exclusive Beetroot Bovril. Man City are currently launching lots of sustainability initiatives, which is great, but you can’t claim anything when your owners are Saudi Princes with questionable ethics.
I would hope that any electricity we use would be carbon neutral as that’s easy to negotiate and cost neutral.
The ambient temperature beer, served at Oakwell, suggests our caterers don’t turn the fridges on in an effort to reduce our carbon footprint. It’s a start. Small steps....
