In 2012 BFC looked into putting photo voltaics on the south facade of the south stand, ground source heat pumps in the carpark behind the north stand and sinking a bore hole to use non potable water for the pitches. This was about 6 months after Dale Vince installed solar panels at New Lawn Stadium. There was a lot of talk and meetings but in the end things just fizzled out. The only good thing to come out of it was a refund from Yorkshire Water for the drainage of waste water that wasn't. Most of the metered was used on the pitches and drained naturally without going into YWA drains.
If FGR can do so much for the planet then bigger clubs like ourselves have no excuses. We have one planet and it is being ruined. We could do so much better then we do and that is without pushing a vegan menu on the fans. When were our floodlights last changed? They cannot be that eco friendly. I have mentioned all season the matchday programme being sent in single use plastic and it still happens. Take our club shop our shirts are made in Vietnam so the carbon footprint to reach here will be huge. Then they are covered in single use plastic and placed in a plastic bag to take home. 3 items there and 2 are plastic. Why do we not do paper bags? About as eco friendly as we get is wooden stirers for warm drinks. We could do a lot worse than have a word with their owner for some guidance.
