To be fair, Tony Blair (and official Labour party policy) supported leaving the EU in the 80s. At the time they were roundly thrashed in every general election. This was far from the only reason, but it is fair to suggest that it was an unpopular policy with the electorate. Once he got to power/learned more about the EU, his position changed.

I remember the Labour left in the 80’s being anti EEC.
But Dek suggested that Tony Blair was elected on that platform. He’s already admitted that he was mistaken so let’s not muddy those waters any more.

It’s all boll ox anyway, the point of this thread is that our current prime minister promised an illegal favour to a mate, rather than working with a valid British manufacturer.

This point never seems to brought up in the main TV news events that I’ve seen. Not once have I heard a journalist ask him why he couldn’t source a British based manufacturer. Seen so many company bosses on TV saying they’d been overlooked/ not approached or not had a reply from Govt for their services.

Boris Johnson suffers from classic neuroses - a bad case of self entitled exceptionalism whereby he doesn’t think that rules apply to him.
Coupled with His undoubted belief in his own inviolability- as illustrated by his disregard for safety when eventually catching covid from insisting on shaking hands despite this being discouraged for the rest of the population even at that stage of the pandemic. All goes to show we are dealing with a damaged individual who has chosen the path of self idealisation rather than the healthy route of self realisation and is therefore not to be trusted ( like that wasn’t already obvious). The fact he continues to garner support despite these massive personality flaws is probably more worrying then the fact he clearly displays these traits.

There was a bit of noise in the media at the time. But generally speaking the media has swallowed the ‘priority lane’ lie. They’re all pretending that it was a reasonable way to award emergency contracts, rather than just a device for awarding contracts without proper scrutiny.

But what really bothers me is that these sleazebags are also giving their mates high powered jobs, which then means ‘civil servants’ get dragged down into their cesspit.
And these shysters aren’t ‘civil servants’ at all! They’re politicians mates who’ve been gifted jobs without proper scrutiny. They’re political appointments, and that goes against the civil service code.

Let's see what the polls show once the full economic effects are felt.

Good old Jimmy D , did a number on the Govt here in Singapore.

Had them believing that he was gonna buld electric cars here , they gave him a pile of money to come here , bent the rules as well for him so he could buy a landed property (this type of property is restricted to citizens). Was gonna create thousands of jobs , then after he utilised the benefits , he said sorry , that isnt gonna happen anymore.

he has just switched his residency back to UK as well , it was in the news here today.
