Dropping Jack Walton, who has done very little wrong this season, seemed like one of the harshest decisions made by a Barnsley manager in a long while. Indeed it must have been a tough call for Big Val, as Walton had been having a very good season. I wasn't entirely sure it was the right decision at the time, but making tough calls is what the manager is paid for, and time has shown us that the decision was correct. Both Walton and Collins have turned out to be very fine keepers, but by playing Collins whose attributes are slightly different to Walton's, we've gone from having a good defence to having an excellent defence. At this level of professional sport, such fine margins are the difference between 6th place and 7th or 8th. Collins is positionally superb, both on through balls and crosses. Whether he's anywhere near as good a shot stopper as Walton remains to be seen, as he's faced so few I've not been able to draw any conclusions.
Could clive baker play sweeper keeper.cant remember name of that german keeper he wa good he got injured for us hed av been good at it.if someone can tell mi name pls do.
Thank you so much its been doing mi head in couldnt think wat to ask Google. Hes probably been the best keeper weve had only my opinion loved dave watson baker
Yep - I thought it was nuts at the time but I guess a lot of it comes down to mobility and romal can cover more ground
And budget wise was probably a case of keeping James would have lead to us not signing Morris, Kitching and Dike. Even though in hindsight one of them has yet to play for us. On the keeper front I wouldn’t say Walton had been having an outstanding season. He was very nervous/indecisive a lot of the time but made some important and eye-catching saves. I felt with some of the goals we conceded that whilst you could never say he was at fault you always thought he should have done better. Big decision to make the switch though.
Speaking of Brad Collins. Great read posted this morning by Leon at the YP. https://www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/spo...it-of-learning-quickly-under-pressure-3212645
Jack Walton's birthday today. No complaints about him when he's been in goal but I think Brad is way more decisive coming out of goal and is improving each game.
It was Jack’s birthday yesterday actually. 23. Bloody 23! It seems like he’s been around for years. I also thought he was harshly dropped, but playing Kamikaze Collins has been key to our high line and in fairness Brad’s been, in the main, fantastic. I also thought it was madness to let Matty James go. Ridiculous decision, Kane didn’t look up to it and Palmer blew hot and cold. Those things are still true to a point - but the budget was redirected to bring in other players. Ok we havent seen Kitching, but who would argue that Morris and Dike haven’t made an immeasurable difference? Tough decisions but absolutely, completely justified in hindsight. Thankfully we have professionals at the club who know a lot more than we do!
Thankfully we have professionals at the club who know a lot more than we do! Think Morris is a case in point. Everyone telling the manager he should be starting but all along he had an injury problem that needed careful management.
This post highlights the terrible evils of alcohol. Who could possibly imagine the author of this insightful observation would soon be pondering "the greater good".
