I'd play our best team and hopefully build some momentum. We've got a week's gap either side of our next game, and then over a week to the first play-off game.
First Half: Collins Sibbick, Halme, Helik J. Williams, Kane, Mowatt, Oduor Adeboyejo, Woodrow, Chaplin Second Half: Collins Sibbick, Anderson, Sollbauer J. Williams, Kane, Palmer, Oduor Adeboyejo, Dike, Chaplin. Then sumat similar for Norwich game. Maybe starting Morris instead of Woodrow and bringing Brittain and Styles back into the fold.
Collins, Sibbick, Helik, Andersen, Brittain, Palmer, Mowatt, Styles, Chaplin, Dike, Adeboyejo. As good a team as possible, while managing the minutes played by WMD. Use of 10 subs over two games to give playing time to Halme (in defence), Kane, Williams (on both left and right) as well as the 5 forwards (assuming Frieser isn't available)
It's about protecting our players. If we picked up a couple of injuries and suspensions in the next two games this board would be all over it why we risked players we could have rested in games that don't mean as much as the three after it.
While we're being dramatic, what if Helik or Mowatt get a straight red? Or Dike does his knee? Would it have been worth it?
Y Yes and gain unnecessary injuries and possible red cards in games that doesn’t really matter, but let’s build momentum
By that logic, you'd scrap pre-season friendlies. You can't just wrap players in cotton wool for two and a half weeks. They'll get completely caught cold when it matters.
W We've hardly had any major injuries throughout this season, that must be a result of the way that we train. Val doesn't flog them on the training field hence the players are fit for matchday. Our best results funnily enough have come when we've played Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday etc. When we get a week off we seem slow from the outset. Keep the momentum, keep them focused, keep winning. 3 wins. That's it.
I’ve been saying let’s give a few (not all) players some rest but I’m not sure Val will be thinking that. I think he’ll probably want to play his strongest teams for the last 2 games so they’re all raring to go for the playoffs.
No not at all, this is endish of season anyway. Looking after key players for the final push by resting and/or playing them in bit parts for 2 games that means little to all teams concerned, seems the sensible thing to do. If we lose those games without our key players either not featuring or playing little, then momentum isn’t really lost
That would be 5 games then. Can see the moaning if we lost Dike for eg, in the last 2 league games for what, the chance of a little momentum, that doesn’t always mean owt, as in 2006
It is a balancing act definitely. It wouldn't surprise me to see Chaplin and Adeboyejo play 60 mins instead of 30 in at least one of the game, possibly both. It's important to get Kane some match fitness if he's over his injury. But I would be very surprised if the starting line up wasn't Collins, Sibbick / Sollbauer, Helik, Andersen, Brittain, Mowatt, Palmer, Styles plus whoever he starts up front, which is interchangeable anyway. The fact we are already in the play offs might affect how the subs are used though.
They'll have tracking data and other key fitness metrics to look at and figure out who needs rest etc. Game time for Kane and others who might feature is valuable, but don't think swapping out 8 ordinarily guaranteed starters makes sense for continuity and cohesion (or momentum )
