Revolting. Policing in the US needs rethinking from the ground up

 

Didn’t take long for the US apologist to appear.

 

There not much different over here if you take the racism away wasnt there a young un getting clonked with a baton not that long ago ? Prisoner getting a hot drink chucked over him in tarn. Not setting reight people in charge of there foot soldiers is wat id say.

I’m not sure our police are that much less racist, they’re just not armed.

If you look at stop and search figures, you’ll see the Police justify the race balance on the basis that they match conviction rates.

But if you survey drug use by race, then you find that white people are much more likely to be drug users.

Ergo - stop and search is just a self fulfilling prophecy. They’re not targeting ‘likely offenders’ they’re targeting ‘likely prison population’.

 

There are several problems with the police in the USA:

1). Training is short - compared to the UK
2). Policing attracts authoritarians, or those on a power trip - as much if not more than those than genuinely want to serve the public. It can be difficult to weed them out at the interview stage - and during training.
3). Too many people are armed - so any dealing with the public can result in a gun battle leaving the police in a permanent state of hyper-awareness. This makes it easier for situations to escalate

Not all police are bad, but it is becoming increasingly obvious that a small number are *very bad*.

 

You are 100% correct, in the US due to the amount of different kinds of police forces not all are what you'd call qualified to do the job.
This practice is sneaking its way into our policing. Pay a pittance to do a responsible and at times dangerous job and you'll get the wrong type of people. We've already seen a Met Officer found guilty of being a Nazi sympathiser.
The job isn't an easy one, its not just as simple as being Dirty Harry on each job.
Qualifications / knowledge and life experience are key skills on the job. It seems these attributes are overlooked to feed the desire to just put more people in uniforms.

 

There would be more issues if you scaled population sizes, but you'd have to be naive in extreme to think that's the only issue here.

 

What we've seen over the last 40 years is law enforcement being used as a political tool. Stop and search is a valuable resource if carried out effectively. However certain practices like this are the 'go to' red meat policies which certain Home Sec's love. It allows client journalists to write about how tough they are on crime. It doesn't cost as much as investigating a burglary, and papers over the cracks.
Let's not forget that we now have hardly any traffic cops, community bobbies, or forensic teams. The forensic sciences have been farmed out to private companies / labs and cost an arm and a leg.

 

Nothing surprises me what happens in America, that woman was lucky to she was not shot, some republicans still think the vote was rigged take Arizona the republican nut jobs are counting the votes again behind closed doors they are as deluded as their leader Trump.

 

You're right in everything you say, but we're not far behind minus the guns. We've got a PM and cabinet full of pathological liars, who just happen to be in charge during a period of huge risk both to the health and financial well-being of the nation. Yet they've supposedly still got huge support from the public, what could possibly go wrong?

 

It's the same in certain boroughs of the UK due to knife crime. It's the strange situation where locals carry weapons, not always to use them but for protection. I'm guessing its the same in the US with guns, but thankfully not many knife incidents have resulted in police deaths or injuries (thanks to the use of taser and spray). They do occur though daily.
Poverty, lack of opportunities and employment and most importantly mental health issues are the usual mitigating factors.
2 supposed superpowers with loads of wealth and we can't combat any of them.

74 gun related incidents just yesterday ,all attended by police, would not want to be a police officer over there, all this defund the police ,imagine it would be anarchy

 

A lot of the American population has a weird bootlicking mentality when it comes to the police and military. There's a weird sense of reverence, which only fuels the ego and sense of superiority of the bad apples who basically think they're Judge Dredd.
