I felt in the game at Oakwell they let us back in to it and whenever they attacked look like scoring. One of those where I'm convinced if they let us back in the game they'd have put the foot on the accelerator and scored a couple more. Quality of their players was clear that day. At their place we were the better team second half but that was after they could have gone 4-1 up. I just want us to still be in the game after the first leg and I think of all the teams we might play Bournemouth represent the biggest risk to putting it out of sight in game one. Equally though we could beat any of them too.
I am the opposite , I might be wrong but I do not think we have had back to back defeats in the league under Val & I cannot see us being beaten twice in a 2 legged play off & therefore we will be in with a shout , where as a one off final is simply that , its a one off & who ever turns up on the day will probably win the spoils but I think we will make the final as I simply do not think anyone will beat us over 2 legs especially if we are away in the second game, we will see , its all about opinions
You are right sir & win the prize, I knew someone would prove me wrong but I was going from memory & have now trawled through the results & agree with you , so I will now say that we have not lost back to back league games since january ,which is pretty impressive & does not happen very often, will that do to back up my opinion ?
I agree with you we've been very impressive, especially the second half of the season. We have momentum going into the playoffs, and we will be a match for any of the teams that we play
By all accounts, Swansea now are unrecognisable to the team that beat us twice in under a month. They'd only conceded 13 goals all season when we last played them. They've conceded 23 since, and whilst 36 goals over a season is a great return, they can certainly be got at more now than we managed previously. We have Dike now too, and Morris only played the last 25 minutes of the 2nd game, and was still reacquainting himself with the championship.
Is that right? It appears bigger than that though! Collins will have a bit more sweeping up to do then.
Both games were pre-Dike and Morris. At Oakwell they were incredibly lucky to come away with a 2-0 win, and they're dreadfully out of form at the moment. I think we'll beat them if we play them.
I hear this a lot. Is Wembley actually much bigger than Oakwell? A quick Google search says Wembley is 115 x 75 yds and Oakwell is 110 x 75 yds. So slightly longer, but the same width. Sources could be wrong.
I've always wondered about Wembley always been referred to as an 'energy sapping pitch'. Never thought too much to figure out why like. Didn't know if it was the size, the occasion, surface ?
I get how it can be seen as 'bigger'. The stadium, the event, the perimeter etc. But yeah, the actual pitch itself is pretty much the same size. Certainly no wider, which is the thing people tend to refer to when they say it favours certain teams. If anything, I suspect a longer pitch will suit us even more. Further to hoof it, further for it to come back.
Yep, it's a complete myth. The pitch at the Abbey Stadium, Cambridge is exactly the same dimensions as Wembley (or at least it was).
We’ve won 2 and lost 4 of our games against the other three teams in the playoffs. Aggregate scores for those games were: Barnsley 2 Brentford 1 Barnsley 3 Bournemouth 6 Barnsley 0 Swansea 4 The Swansea games were a bit different to the others because they were so close together. But still, out of all the teams in the playoffs, our best result over two games was against Brentford. Looking at the table and fixtures, one more win for Brentford will confirm 3rd place. Bournemouth have two fairly ‘easy’ games and a better goal difference so I can see them finishing 4th. I can’t see us facing Swansea in the playoffs unless there are some random results in these last two games.
Also very disappointed no one has asked whether width is more important than length. Raise your game.
On the subject of size, I seem to remember that Doncaster's Belle Vue had the biggest pitch in the Football League (ie all 92 professional clubs). I don't know which ground holds the title now. Edit The Etihad is currently the biggest at 116x76 yards ie bigger than Wembley.
