Similar mindset to ourselves. I like the point that we'll have to beat two of the three to gain promotion. It's a good way to look at it.
They’re largely confident, as I reckon all 4 fan bases will be! Although I’d take Swansea, they haven’t won many recently and 2 of them were injury time penalties they got through cheating / inept refereeing. Can’t help thinking Brentford are due a bit of play-off luck mind.
The Sky commentary the other day said they had never got promoted via the play offs. I think he said ten attempts? Poor record that
People on here keep saying they'd want Swansea - why? They've beaten us twice this season and we've not beaten them since the 1980s - barring of course the win on penalties in 2006. They're about as bogey a bogey team as a bogey team can be. I get that Swansea have been poor recently, but I'd rather we played a team we've had the better of more than once (on penalties) in the last 30 odd years.
In my head I associate Swansea with a more physical style of play. I don't even know if that's true any more - if it ever was - but I always expect a drab, low-scoring affair when the Swansea fixture comes around (in much the same way that I associate Peterborough with high scoring, entertaining games). I'd be more than happy to avoid Swansea altogether, based purely on out of date perceptions and a gut feeling that they're the ones to steer clear of.
It’s all about opinions of course and the forum would be bloody boring / pointless if we all thought the same! I personally don’t believe in ‘bogey teams’ as I really don’t see the significance of what happened in games in the past which none of the current players or managers were involved in. Yes they have beaten us twice this season. They were flying then, they’re not now. I would also argue we’re a far better side than we were then. Toney, Mbuemo, Danjuma, Brooks, Dike, Morris etc are almost impossible to stop on their day. Swansea don’t have any players that scare me (I know it’s a team game of course). Taking everything into account I still think they’re the weakest of the 4 right now.
Ayew - seems to score against us every game. I follow some Brentford fans on Twitter, absolutely convinced they'll lose to us if they play us and hence are hoping to avoid us.
Genuinely don’t get the hype over Ayew. Take out his penalties and he’s a less than 10 goals a season man with a few assists. Tidy footballer but I wouldn’t lose any sleep over him. If he wasn’t on £80k a week I think he’d rarely get a mention.
I don't understand the bogey team thing, how people think results over more than the past couple of seasons are elevant is beyond me. It's the football equivalent of saying a coin is going to land on heads because it has landed on heads 4 times in a row previously.
How have we never won away at Coventry for nearly 100 years? It's a hoodoo it is, definitely a bogey team
I agree entirely with what you say re bogey teams. It's just a coincidence that we haven't won away to Coventry for so long. A remarkable coincidence, possibly, but, nevertheless, a coincidence.
15 years ago, the three other teams in the play offs were playing in the bottom two divisions and averaging less than 6000 fans. Mad, that they're anywhere near where they are.
Normally, I'd be in complete agreement but the last 12 months has seen so many bogies laid to rest that I'd fancy us to do it again.
