Our fans are weird sometimes. Storming out of a pre season Game early at Rotherham in 2017. Going off in a huff at the Big screen showing of the Bristol rovers Game after we'd already been promoted. And now, I see people getting worried about Saturdays nothing Game. Lets just chill out guys. Bournemouth Made six changes and Lost to wycombe. Brentford stumbled to a 1-0 win against Rotherham like us, then beat a drunk side who's already up. Swansea were behind for 40 minutes against a dreadful Derby side. We're all just waiting for the real games that actually matter. The only thing that matters is avoiding injuries.
It's more that we've played poorly for a while now. It's not a one off or two off or even three off game. We got easily beaten at the weekend, easily beaten by Coventry who was fighting to stay up, was lucky to beat Rotherham and only beat Huddersfield by one goal as one of the worst teams in our league. We lost to Wednesday as well who might go down this weekend. Middlesbrough is the only game in our last eight we have won and comfortably. I hope we are just keeping something back for the play offs and not just simply run out of steam.
I would be less concerned if we’d used the opportunity to rest a few regulars, and get some game time for the fringe players in the squad. As we played a full strength team, you can only assume we were actually trying to win. If that’s the best we can do, then the playoffs could end up a little embarrassing.
If you look back at the history of the play offs you'll see that momentum is key. In terms of the result it's not really a issue as we're in the play offs. If you look at our last play offs finals in league 1 we had a unbelievable run and kept the momentum going all the way to Wembley and beat Millwall hands down. Hope we don't get beat up by Norwich on Saturday as that wouldn't be good for confidence going into our first game.
I think people are massively over thinking things we've achieved our goal and it's perfectly normal for teams to have a wobble when the pressure is on, Reading and Cardiff couldn't handle it and Brentford and Swansea have limped over the line. We've got no divine right to win the playoffs but I'm certain Big Val will have us re focused.
Not worried about the result per say, but concerned that we seem to be hitting a sticky patch performance wise at just the wrong time...
Not bothered by the Preston result. But as said already, our performances since the international break makes us outsiders for the play offs. That doesn’t really concern me as long as it’s not followed by losing half the team in the summer.
We’ve lost three of the last 20 league games. Won 13 of them. It’s the best run of form we’ve ever been on. So well done you, for somehow making it seem like we are really struggling. You never fail to amuse me. “only beat Huddersfield by one goal” We battered them. It was like watching a cat play with a dead mouse. One of the very best away performances in a derby match that I’ve ever seen. On another night, we score four or five. Are you a member of the Conservative party?
I wouldn’t waste time trying to compare 2015/16 with this season. We had the best squad ever assembled at that level. We should have been winning that league. Of course we blew the others away once in the playoffs. We’d already beaten Millwall home and away in the league. We have - on paper - comfortably the weakest squad of the play-off sides. The differences in budgets is eye watering. It’s absolute amazing that we’ve got there. And we’ve already beaten two of them this season. No idea why anyone would be worrying about anything. Worst case scenario, we are in the Championship next season. And we’d all have taken that the day Big Val arrived.
That's how I feel about it. We have beaten so many records this season, punched way above our weight and actually made it to the play offs with 2 games to spare. Pressure is on every other team as that is expected of them, hopefully we just go into the play offs fighting, like we've done all season
I could be wrong as I’m just going from memory, but I don’t think our form was that good in the run up to the 2006 play-offs which of course is when we beat Swansea at the Millennium Stadium
I keep seeing people mention that the team with momentum usually win the play offs but then also that the play offs are a lottery and anyone can win them on the day. Which is it? Apart from our 2015/2016 where we obviously were bombarding teams and then stormed the play-offs, are there other regular examples of the team in the best form go on to be promoted?
I think it tells us all we need to know about what Val expects going into the play offs he said in an interview before the game at the weekend that we need to up our game or forget about doing anything in the play offs so I think its clear Val thinks we are underperforming or not performing to the required standards he sets.
If think if val was taking the preston game that serious chaplin wouldn't have started, moon and vic i doubt would have featured.
Correct - we were dreadful. I distinctly remember us cheering their second as it was so utterly deserved. Playoffs are a lottery - on our day we can beat any side, and we've had a lot of 'on our days' this season. Just need 3 more.
