I've understood your point as: because SW have a massive fan base, your saying they deserve to buy the best players and pay them massive wages, in order to win football matches. Fact is, they've "splashed the cash" and wasted it on players "because they can". They've done it for so many years now, that it's become unsustainable. Sooner or later, someone had to realise they couldn't keep splashing out on 50 pairs of shoes a month, they actually needed to go out and buy some food. No-one has realised this and now they can't even pay their wages..... again. Like I say, the number of fans a club has does not equate to winning football matches.
Not for not paying wages isn't a points deduction. It usually leads to a transfer embargo, but I think Wednesday have been in one of those for sometime anyway. Obviously if the unpaid wages leads to administration(which is looking more and more likely), then it's 12 points off...
No it doesn't but I think the point being made is that a larger fan base generates larger revenue which should, managed correctly, lead to better quality players than a smaller club can afford - without the need to overspend.
I think we're all in agreement here, and you've hit the nail on the head with "managed correctly" and "no need to overspend". Neither of which SW have done, so do they deserve to go down? Yes I think they do, for first of all for flouting the rules and then not only overspending, but not buying young, hungry players wishing to play at a higher level instead of just raking in the cash
Fingers crossed they'll be replacing it with a Johnson's Paint Trophy offer (or whatever it's called these days).
If the worst happens then every time a little part of you finds some sympathy for them just remember ‘feed the dingles’ & them taunting us about signing Sam Winnall as their 5th choice striker on 18k a week. They weren’t asking questions when they’d got a strikeforce earning the best part of 200k a week.
But the fact is that all four teams reformed and on the field are indistinguishable from the original club, as you quite rightly pointed out with regards to Fiorentina. In fact apart from Foggia, they all returned to their country's top flight very quickly.
In English football it would(should) be much, much tougher to get a phoenix club back up the leagues, due to the depth of our non-league pyramid. I'm not saying the giants of the game would not manage it, but t would certainly take longer and cost much more money that it did for Rangers or Fiorentina. A club such as Wednesday would carry a huge chunk of their support over to the new club, but that could be worthless if they could not find a home to accommodate, say ~20k crowds(I'm assuming Hillsborough would not be given back to them after Chansiri gose home and takes his toys with them)...
I think the problem is that Wednesday players are paid the last Thursday of the month and Chansiri doesn't get his pocket money off dad till the weekend...
This is something I genuinely don’t understand and would appreciate an explanation from someone. Has an offence been committed by the Massives? Yes. What’s the penalty for that offence? A 12 points deduction. How come that’s reduced to six points? No idea. Why wasn’t the penalty imposed last season? No idea. Don’t accept the nonsense that the season was over, because it wasn’t.
I see some are loving it. Not for me. If it happened to us it would be like a loved one dying. Yes they have some deluded fans but we all do. I hope they sort it out behind close doors but not on the field
I wouldn't want them to permanently disappear but they've had the glory years and seem to have been massively in debt for ages. Got to catch up with them at some point. Overdue a good spell in the lower leagues!
Just imagine if you'd (stupidly) paid five thousand pounds for a 15 year ticket and had not been able to actually watch your team for a season and a half, then the first time you were allowed back in you were one division LOWER than when you bought it, and depending on when you were allowed in it could possibly be two. Ah well. Trouble is, they'll pox their way out and will be in Europe ere long.
Interestingly. Wendy have 16 players out of contract this summer. Leaving 12 beyond that. Comparison. Barnsley have 3 out of contract this summer. Mowatt. Dike and Adeboyejo. 21 beyond that. Kitching being the longest. 2025.
