Texas have been back to normal over a month now with no spike. Other states like New York and Florida are about to go back to old normal life. USA are trusting the vaccines and getting back to how life should be with nothing mandatory and people taking personal responsibility by avoiding places they don't feel safe in.

Another six weeks of people being vaccinated and our daily figures will be that low that surely the government cannot be soft on releasing us. Raab talking about masks after June 21st yesterday was horrible. The media today talking about them for settings like the cinema and theatre. Why would people bother going?

You can't put up something like that and then claim you're not here for an argument. Tell us what's 'clear as day', otherwise you're just spreading baseless rumours without having the guts to say it out loud.

    Yours, a family business.

Because masks just aren't a big deal. I've sat outside at a whole lot of pubs recently, and it hasn't been an issue. You sit at the table and drink your pint, but just put your mask on when you go indoors. It's not particularly problematic. Hopefully at some point it won't be necessary any more, and that will be great. But in the meantime, wearing them at the cinema or theatre isn't a problem, just like at the pub - at its worst it's slightly more awkward than you might be used to.

    I despise wearing a mask.

I won't go anywhere I have to wear it for more than 5 minutes at a time.

That's absolutely fine - I don't think anybody has a problem with you staying at home until they're not required any more.

Because to a lot of people they aren't a big deal, or even a deal at all. That's not me saying that they should be forever or anything like that, just answering why a lot of people would 'bother going'.

One death got announced today and we often now have under 2,000 infections a day. The Zoe app keeps recording record lows. In six weeks time nearly every adult will have had at least one jab and tens of millions will be fully vaccinated. If in the height of the summer heat we still have to wear masks, then we have less hope of not having to wear them when we get back around to the winter time. How are people to eat popcorn and drink their pop in a cinema with a mask on or in a theatre? A pub that is forced to offer table service isn't a proper pub just a restaurant with less meals served.

Is that because you've never worn it for more than 5 minutes at a time, or at least not very often? Genuine question as I found it weird and was hyper-aware of it at first but after wearing it at work all day for months and months it literally doesn't bother me in the slightest. In fact, I voluntarily wore it on dog walks in the middle of winter as it was warmer.

You can take it off whilst eating and drinking in a cinema. This isn't new stuff, it happened last year. It wont be forever.

Get a grip and stop looking for stuff to moan about.

I often feel sick in warm and stuffy vehicles. The mask makes that worse.

I've walked a mile to the shop just to realize I don't have a mask on me, several times.

I don't like the feeling that your gonna get nicked if You wanna scratch your nose.

I just don't get on with the things TBH

Definitely disagree with the last part - it's easy to run a pub with table service, and in my experience a lot of people like it more. Cinemas and theatres have adjusted already, and will continue to do so - I'm sure that there's a big group of people who'd say that stopping people from munching popcorn and drinking pop would be very welcome! At any rate I'm not particularly bothered at the moment - you can quote stats but I still remember what happened when the government tried to save christmas...

Like I said on another thread on here recently, I'm prepared for the current restrictions to continue into the autumn. I'd raise my eyebrows if it continues past then, but wouldn't be particularly surprised.

There is solid scientific evidence that masks prevent droplets from our breath becoming aerosol. There is solid scientific evidence that aerosols from infected people contain the virus, and that other people contaminated by these aerosols will contract the infection. There is a very logical inference that masks will, therefore, limit infection.

But there is no solid evidence for this. There are some scientific papers that claim this, but they are so flawed, despite the beautiful language within that ensures they are published and funding continues.

To test the efficacy of anything you need a control group. In a global pandemic, if you come up with a theory, it is unethical to have a control group. If you claim masks prevent infection it is unethical to have a control group who don't wear masks. Even if your claim is based on Fairies and Father Christmas, it is unethical to run an experiment and deny people the means by which you believe infection can be prevented. So, we have no reliable data.

No one knows, in a real life situation, if masks prevent the spread of infection of Covid-19. As much as anyone claims they do, they really don't. They have some very solid theories why it should, but not if it does. Looking at the data, of course they fk*cing don't. It's blatantly obvious they have no effect. And that analysis I've just given is way better than any scientific paper you'll read on the subject, because it simply looks at the figures rather than using a cognitive bias.

    1. Same for me. I try to avoid being in cars wherever possible anyway, but the whole mask thing has intensified that.
    2. I also live about a mile from my local shop - I agree that it's really annoying to nip home and get your mask.
    3. I'd suggest that if the cops try and nab you just point to the people who aren't bothering, because there are always plenty of them about.
    4. I definitely understand this. Luckily nobody's going to force you to wear a mask in your own home.

Yep. Every year, I have either one or two bouts of the cold, where for a few days I feel horrific and stay at home until I'm better. I had exactly that in March, and before that, in late September. On that second occasion, a couple of months back, I genuinely felt that bad that when I was COVID tested, I fully expected it to be positive. But no. Just a cold. Or 'man flu' if you like. No energy, short of breath, aching limbs and a shocking sore throat where simply swallowing became an Olympic event.

It's still there, the old 'common' cold. And no vaccine for it. Had a right good read about why that is, when I was laid in bed a few weeks ago suffering. They've been trying for 70+ years, but failing. There are over 150 different strains apparently and we don't have the technology at this point. Funny old world.
