Just got a flier from one of our local Thai restaurants which in big letters says Free delivery within 3 miles small print min order £20 All seems reasonable until you see further down 10% discount for collections Maybe I am being thick but doesn't that mean they are charging 10% for delivery and its not free at all It also becomes more and more expensive for delivery the more you order which seems backwards to me For example they do a banquet at £29.95 per person - minimum 4 persons so their free delivery for that is actually costing £12 - £18 if you got it for your current maximum of 6 mates riound for a meal seems a bit bizarre
Gave over using free delivery. Ages ago. Bit of a con re the pricing and discount. But it's the fact. The time frame is usually miles out. And even on some collect issues. Not preparing your meal till you're staring em in the face. Edit may I just add. Having moved into the mapplewell area. Having tried a few Asian meals. Sun Mei for a Chinese. (Mapplewell) Alams for Indian (Higham) Are the best I've tried. And worth the drive. Others are pretty decent. Nowt crap as yet. Used to live in wombwell area and most takeaways have gone Downhill. The restaurants being the best.
You're wrong, they are actually charging about 11% - if the cost of a delivered item is say £10, therefore on collection with 10% discount the cost is £9 so they are adding one ninth of the price which is about 11%.
TBH. had both and would recommend both. But me n the missus agree on Sun mei. Not tried everything on the menu. But like for like. based on a couple from the menu. She rarely wavers outside 2 or 3 choices. Other meals, either may have the edge.
We liked Rajas Indian on Sheffield road until they made their menu/pricing ridiculous. I like a chicken vindaloo (was £6) with keema rice (was £2). Now they force a side you don’t want with every curry. You can pick from Naan, boiled rice etc, for £8… but I don’t want those, I want keema rice. Only way to get it is to also get a side I don’t want and order the keema as a separate entity. Basically used to cost us £15 for an Indian night, now it’s £20+ and absolutely full of food waste. Crazy.
I have lived in Mapplewell for 70 yrs and once had a takeaway from Sun Mei with prawns in it many years ago and had food poisoning, face swelled up like Billy Bunter.I have never been back but my mate says it has changed ownership might give it a try again.By the way what made you come to Mapp, did you buy one of the houses on the old pit site?
Can't remember his name but he was a big ex rugby player with a broken nose. He used to threaten that he'd throw you through the window if you didn't pay attention. You paid attention....
Poor kid's gotta balance all that order on his handlebars so the bigger the order the more the danger money.
Was it George Rhodes? The only Maths teacher I remember was Mr. Mehta. Fortunately he was good enough to get me good enough for CSE grade 1. Without it I suspect my life would have been very different. I recall a number of teachers from over 50 years ago but only the one maths teacher.
If i was to order 4 Banquets from my local chinese im sure they would still say 20 mins for collection, then start cooking it when i arrive
My maths teacher was the legend that was Webb Swift. Anyone at Holgate in the 1950s& 60s will have a tale to tell about Webb.
Interesting - I can remember most of my teachers and thats going back 40 years now For Maths at Wombwell High I had Mr True and he was an exceptional teacher ( I had a different one for A level but dont remember who he was - just that he did morris dancing in his sare time, Mr Hiibbet? but fortunately I also did Further Maths and Mr True was able to explain again in terms we could understand all the bits we hadnt got first time). He was and still is as far as I know a keen Barnsley supporter as well
Missus does a lot of looking after Grandkids whilst parents are at work (Darton) . So we made the decision to move. plus I'm very near retirement which swayed it. Hoping this year. I don't know where the old pit was in mapplewell mate. I Live just down from the kings head towards darton. (Upper high royds.) A few BFC friends live in the area. My boozing partner/mate is from Mapplewell. We both travel with Hoyland reds to away games. I used to work at Westside coal prep plant. So had several colleagues from the area. We have settled in quickly. Looking forward to getting out a bit more. Re chinese prawn dishes I now steer clear. Having had poisoning missen.
