Dike and Morris have taken a great deal of pressure off of Woodrow. Cauley was our main striker option prior to the end of January and the thought of us playing without him up to then would leave us short. Now we have 6 front men all capable of contributing.
I think clarky said hirst was gonna play for england which he did.when he made his debut i think he was only 17 aswell.first time i saw him he scored 2 against charlton and no disrespect to dike but hirst wa better younger.
Also fans use the term raw when mentioning dike.raw never got used when mentioning hirsty.by the way i hated him for leaving to them.
To be fair though I do think Dike needs to up his overall game. Goalscoring isn't exactly an attribute.
I had my doubts when we signed him - just because of his age, lack of first team experience, coming to a foreign country into a league system Americans don't usually excel or even venture. He has not even shown any hint that these were problems for him, so he's definitely exceeded my expectations. His future worth and potential are difficult to quantify because he is still so young and therefore has much to learn, but as long as he doesn't go off the rails he's destined for a higher league then the Championship thats for sure, I wouldn't exactly say he's got the all round game to get into the top 5-6 teams in England, but that may develop over time. I do think Helik is overrated on another note. By that, I mean he has done extremely well for us this season and probably deserves the POTS award, but the way people talk about him you would think he was the next John Stones - I think he his pretty basic CB, certainly not as good as Pinnock for example, and even in our back 3 I wouldn't say he stands head and shoulders above the others. Just my opinion of course, and I know that the love for him might trigger outrage, but there you go.
It took me 4 years to learn my trade & a lot longer to gain experience, it's no different for young players although fans always want the finnished article, Dike has been superb & will get better but he is not yet at the top of his game but when he gets there he will be some player
If people are saying he's worth £15m now, then I'd say he's massively overrated. He's young and he's "raw." A lot of the time, I don't think he knows what he's doing or trying to do but hopefully that should come in time. His more natural game seems to be playing on the shoulder and we just don't play that way but he's still got goals, although he's had some absolute gimmes as well as a couple of decent ones too. I wouldn't be surprised if a relegation threatened Prem club made a punt but I just can't see him taking the Prem by storm, his technique needs huge amounts of work to ply a trade at that level. He's powerful and strong but he doesn't seem a naturally skilful player, but we'll see what he manages. My personal expectation is that his career is along the path of say Josy Altidore.
He had no say in the matter. He came in to training one morning and was called into the office and told that he needed to get back in his car and get himself over to Hillsborough because he had just been sold.
I'll put it a different way wen he scored winner wi that diving header in cup i wanted him deadslight over reaction.
He has, but he's not as assured as Morris or Woodrow in general play. Which is to be expected, given he was playing for his college less than 2 years ago. You won't often see him involved in the sort of play that led to Frieser's goals against Wednesday and Bournemouth for example. But aside from that, he seems to have a bit of everything. He makes intelligent runs, which gets him in position to score, when previously we were watching crosses just run across the box without anybody at the end of them. He also wins his share of headers (though I don't think he's really a targetman type player) and terrifies defenders when he gets a chance to run at them. The 10 minutes that led up to the penalty against Luton was almost him playing them on his own. He was also the only one to cause the Rotherham defenders problems. I'd be interested to see how he did playing in the right hand side position, and whether that would allow him to run at defenders more, but still make the off the ball runs into the box when we have it in midfield. But I suspect the demands of that position off the ball would mean it doesn't happen. I'd say £15m isn't overrated at all. Toney will leave for almost double that if Brentford don't go up, and figures of 20+ million are being quoted for Armstrong, and I wouldn't be swap Dike for Armstrong to be honest.
In no time at all he's scored pretty much every type of goal there is to score apart from a penalty The lads got a massive career in front of him.
