We had Billingham most of the time while I was there; as a consequence, most of the maths I know I've taught mi sen since.

You may have come across my younger brother Kevan. He was there from 1974 until 1980.

Not really my area of expertise JP but I don’t see it troubling a courtroom anytime soon.

My Maths teacher at wombwell was Mrs Bramley. And she was top notch at the subject. Which happened to be my favourite. Maths and Games. The only 2 I had real interest in.

I remember his sending a boy to the nearby Co-op for cigarettes. He didn't give the lad any money. He just said: " Say they're for Mr Swift". Web ( abbreviation of "Webster") was a Co-op director. I believe a number of boys attempted later to "buy" for their own use cigarettes, which purported to be "for Mr Swift".

I think I remember a Kevan West - he wasn't in my form but I think he may have been in my year and in the Grange house, same as me

I was one of those boys. 2nd period on Friday was maths. One of us went to the Co-op in Dodworth road for 20 A1 (co-ops own brand fags) and a Chronicle.

And then, I presume, on receiving the Chronicle, he opened it up and started to read it, while you carried on working your way through an exercise which he had set. I remember that we used to swap exercise books and he would read out the answers from his answer book, so we could mark the book of the lad sitting next to us. It wasn't really possible to mark the Geometry books in this manner, so they remained unmarked. I recall his saying one day:" I'm not brainy. You boys are far brainier than I am". He wasn't that daft though!
