You're being a bit gracious. An hour wouldn't even cover his lies from this month, and it's only the 7th!

Absolutely bang on, but here lies the true extent of the Tory gutter press, instead of acknowledging that the French were right to protest, suddenly it was BORIS SENDS IN THE NAVY TO CHASE OFF THEM FORRIN FRENCH, WE TOOK BACK CONTROL, BORIS IS GREAT, VOTE FOR BORIS! RULE BRITANNIA!
    And the band played on..........
Non Tory supporting media just have no idea how to counter this remorseless brain washing of a pretty much beaten down population suffering after lockdown, even though it was Tory incompetence which caused such an extended one.
And of course it neatly avoids the issues now surfacing around Brexit
These aren't just spin doctors, they're f*****g surgical professors!

tbh I'm not even sure I understand what labour supporters want anymore. certainly doesn't feel consistent. put a socialist in and they're bleeding heart communists who want to steal all your taxes to fund terrorism in Israel. put a centrist in and they're Tory-light sell-out Blarities. how a working-class constituency like Hartlepool can vote Tory just blows my mind. the opposition must be galactically $hite

This is what happens when labour abandon the working class to go chasing middle class votes , their narrative changes which now fails to resonate with the said working classes . Corbyn was labours last throw of the dice and instead of the party and liberal media backing him they chose to hound to get him to change his position especially regards Brexit . Apart from their London enclaves the party is finished in my opinion .

That doesn't make any sort of sense though does it? If its true working classes feel neglected, why on earth would they vote for this conservative offering?

You could argue populist language . They at least speak with some empathy for the plight of the UKs working classes . Of course they ll do nothing for them as we all know but labour are not even doing that . When labour speak it sounds patronising and out of touch which I'm afraid is about where they are . You can't be a party of the working classes and the liberal university educated middle classes at the same time .

We know now who votes for a party that has given us 10 years of austerity, put another 2 years on a working man's retirement age put another 7 years on a working woman's retirement age said they were going to build 40 new hospitals up to know they have built diddly squash, look after the Tory donners to mind-boggling amounts of money for PPE, Ventilators, etc a party that's up to its kneck in sleaze and corruption, prase the Nerses and give them nothing but gave Commings an extra £45,000 pay rise a party that says it's for law and order and cuts 20,000 police, it cut the armed forces to boot. But Johnson is trying his best and makes me laugh.

But if that were true.... how could you be a party for the working classes, the middle classes, the upper classes and the elite privileged?

It doesn't make sense. If you can be all those things, you can much more easily cater to both working and middle classes.

It’s like the 1980’s all over again, where the tories have a free reign to do as they please

labour appear clueless as what to do next but putting forward a staunch remainer in a staunch leave area takes the biscuit

If they'd put a staunch leaver in the seat, they would have had the same issue. Labour were always going to be losing this seat because of 2019 and the Tory BXP axis. They did.

The rule book has been thrown out of the window and I guess the most obvious next part of this screwed up experiment is what will people do when they realise that a pathological liar has also lied to them and benefitted personally at their expense?

I'm guessing your referring to the Tories ? Do remember the Tories never abandoned the working classes because they were never with them in the first place where as labour did . This is kind of where we are at . It's down to trust and no one trusts labour anymore but it was their choice to get into bed with the banks and big business . Their not alone either . About every centre left party across Europe is collapsing but they all copy and pasted each others policies .

Agreed, the stance that labour took on brexit was absolutely suicidal and trust in them has gone through the floor, i wonder which of the advisors actually thought it was a good idea to entertain going against brexit when the labour strongholds all over the north of England voted overwhelmingly for it,the tories are going to be in for a very long time i,m afraid...

Well yes, the tories are benefitting from the voters who have left labour. Lib Dems are on the floor, greens arent picking up significant share and BXP and UKIP are done. So indirectly, those who don't vote labour are either not voting, or now vote tory.

So if they left labour as they were lleaning to metropolitan liberals, the least next obvious fit is a party that doesn't represent them and a leader of which has criticised single mothers and those on benefits in his numerously excessively well paid columns for the telegraph down the years.

If banks and big business was an issue for Labour voters.... how could they then support the current sleaze and corrupt cronyism which has literally drained billions from the treasury that will likely be repaid off the backs of the unemployed and working classes?

And on trust, recent polls show people don't trust dePfeffel and don't find him honest. So if thats the case, thats not a likely prevalent reason for people to jump to DePfeffel from labour via BNP, BXP and UKIP over time.

As I say, its incoherent and doesn't make sense.

Most telling statistics so far. Seems Starmer is mining a deep seam of apathy. Stupidest thing to happen in Hartlepool since they hung the monkey. Watch them take apart the NHS now!

30% turn out in Hartlepool, the previous MP resigned over harrassment claims. The economy fell back over 12%, so a potential rise of 7.5% is still a deficit. I'm sure this thread will be full of opinions and lies. What I would ask you all is after 11 years of conservative government, how are your Northern areas doing? Are aspirations being met,is there social opportunity and equality as until the 1990s,which allowed and made working class people wealthier and have successful careers. What is the average wage in Barnsley or Hartlepool?
Go ahead and gloat today but what about yours, your children and grandchildren's future?

How many members of those "liberal university educated middle classes" are working in precarious and underpaid jobs to pay inflated rent to landlords? This New Labour era redefining of 'middle class' as someone who likes nice coffee and sourdough toast masks the fact that when it comes down to it this millennial urban liberal elite are just as working class as the Brexit-voting boomers in forgotten towns of the north and midlands.

You might even be able to reasonably argue that they have a better claim, if you look at rates of home ownership and take pensions into account.

The Labour vote stayed at home, yet folk wont see past the sensationalist media reporting.

Labour need to show some kind of unity and start putllng together, although anything that crops up seems to have folk entrenched in their views with no room for manoeuvring no matter what the subject.
