I don’t like Wednesday like all of this forum but I’m not from Barnsley so see the rivalry slightly differently. Derby are arrogant and can’t stand them. They’ve cheated, just like Wednesday but have got away with it. I don’t mind Wednesday away. Derby is crap. And their arrogance a few years ago when they beat us 4-1 and would apparently ‘never see us again’. Hate Wednesday, hate Derby more at the moment.
Wednesday should have been down last season though. When that didn’t happen they should have had 12 points deducted this season. For them to have stayed up would have been all kinds of wrong.
Both Wednesday and Derby are horrible tinpot clubs. I'd laugh if the FA got their act together and deducted them points
Know what you mean, fowls should be down but wish Derby had gone with them. Will never forget their nastiness when we were relegated and the vitriol they spouted arrogantly as they had reached the play offs. Hopefully we won’t be playing them for a long time as they are horrible.
I'd like to see Rooney prosper. Whatever his wider character traits, he is a proper football man. Man Utd and England top striker, and prepared to get his hands dirty in this league, which whatever we think is a comedown for him. He said in advance of today he would stay whatever the outcome. We'll never know whether he would have honored that. But he has grafted away with a poor side and got his reward in survival. I think it will be fascinating to see whether he can take Derby forward.
The ideal scenario would have been a rotherham win and they both drop i think most football fans in Yorkshire were wanting that outcome unfortunately it didn't happen. I'd rather derby drop out of the 2 as Wednesday are in a bad way on and off the pitch and I think they would have struggled next season had they stayed up.
We said this last season, when the points deduction applied from this season. Where is the line drawn? They should have been relegated already
I agree with a lot of this, respect Rooney for the great career he had, he was some player. That said I can see why the press being so up his arse fooks folks off.
Not at all ,I think Wednesday should be congratulated on their relegation win tonight . It’s been hard won and FL tried their best to stop them achieving it by giving them back half the points deduction but besides this setback they muffled through and achieved a well deserved relegation to league one .
I think they've had a massive reality check this season. 6 losses on the spin (worst form since their prem season), losing to #teamslikebarnsley at home and scraping survival with a draw against the team that finished rock bottom. It would have been hilarious had they gone down but they might have done a Norwich/Leicester/Southampton and rebuilt to come back stronger - as it stands, I think they'll be in for another poor season in 21/22. Plus, we may still "never play them again" if the play offs go well for us!
Agree but we got there in the end, derby cheated and should have been docked points god knows how they got away with it. Man city are in the final of a competition they shouldn't even be taking part in as they were banned from it and somehow got it overturned. Football isn't fair sometimes.
I knew all along that Rotherham wouldn't hold on. I was like the prophet of doom: they're going to concede, because that's just what they do. And they did. I'd have loved it if Derby had dropped, too. I did not think there was any way their match was ending in a draw, but even when it did, Rotherham were too flaky to save themselves. I sort of wish they'd beaten us the other week. It would have kept them up, and I'd sooner have had Brentford than Swansea in the play-offs. Oh, well.
I wanted Rotherham to stay up. But after that, bizarrely, I was the same and wanted WRDCFC to go down instead of Weds. Never thought I’d want that
How is being awarded a job at a decent second tier club with no experience "getting his hands dirty"? He didn't earn it, he got it on name only and he's been crap. The squad is average but not relegation fodder. I'm laughing at "his reward is survival" - that's like deliberately setting fire to your house and then claiming credit for saving the cat. He had a very good club career but he lost it earlier than he should due to not taking care of himself properly over the years. His England career was pretty disappointing if we're being honest, John Stones has twice as many World Cup goals as he does.
Also to keep the side up with 44 points shows a remarkable amount of luck thats a points total that gets you relegated more seasons than not and would have done this season had Rotherham been able to hit the proverbial bovine posterior with a stringed instrument. in fact last seaon 44 points would have secured last place even taking Wigans points deduction into account
