Thinking racial equality is a political issue. Suppose it's slightly different to just coming out and saying "I'm racist"
I've only ever had the displeasure and misfortune of chatting with 3 Millwall "fans". Incredibly, all 3 were abhorrent racists. I know, whoddathunkit? Ironic (and sad) that in one instance, I was sat next to them at a wedding. A Ghanaian wedding. It didn't go well.
How many times? Its not a BLM protest . Its the players showing their opinion that all racism showed be kicked out. Not too difficult to understand.
That week it was booed at Norwich, Colchester and West Ham too. It all got turned into the usual Millwall media obsesión. But it's just sort of an assumption that they must all have been racista, which i'm not sure is entirely true.
Because, like Millwall (albeit on a smaller scale), we have a minority of knuckle dragging, intolerant "fans" who may choose to air their views when the players kneel on Monday, which will help to establish us in the media's/viewer's eyes as a town full of thick racists.
1st championship play off semi final we have been in for 21 years to start with boos for people taking a stand against racism would be very embarrassing. Also don't think dike, Morris, palmer, odour or val would find it nice. If your lucky enough to have a ticket just go and get behind the team.
Surely that wouldn't happen. If it did, it'd be really hard to stomach. But I've got faith in the 4,500 fans in there Side note - what's the done thing for the fans while the players the knee? Is it applause or silence?
As has been eloquently answered above, because at this club, as most others, we have a real drain, a knuckle-dragger minority if you wish to refer to them as that. There is an ever growing and relatively unchecked support of far-right politics in this area, I don’t just mean Barnsley; blatant racism, and in particular taking pride in it, seems if anything to be on the rise rather than fall. The world seems much more racist now than it did 10 or 20 years ago - maybe the racist element just feel more comfortable doing it publicly rather than underground. I’ve no wish to re-tread old arguments on Brexit, and clearly it wasn’t racist reasons why a lot of leave voters voted how they did, but it was appealing to far right closet (or out and proud) bigots that tipped the vote in the working class areas. Sadly abhorrent views and behaviours are prominent, even a small minority can make noise. If ten fans boo on Monday it will be heard.
Red Helen said Swansea fans think we're racist, onemickybutler replied 'Bit rich coming from them to be fair. The Welsh clubs always seem pretty anti English in my experience'
I think we should all clap - drown out the noise of any racists, hopefully there won't be any like, but you never know.
It never entered my head that there would be booing at our stadium and I would imagine as most of us live by similar standards, the booing would very very quickly be stopped by the others in the ground if it did actually happen.
We have quite a few racists at the club imo and therefore it stands to reason that there will be a number of racists in the crowd on Monday. Whether or not they boo is up to them. However I would hope that even the thickest of moronic racists might realise that booing one's own team might be counter-productive and have a negative effect on team morale and that therefore they wont boo! Note - I realise I have just credited racists with a certain level of intelligence. Apologies.
