There's a dedicated FA Cup channel on the BBC, all day. Admitted, it's only on the BBC iPlayer... https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/p09h5vxm/the-fa-cup-202021-fa-cup-channel
Bless them, they are trying to big it up like it used to be. Can't blame them for trying. But I bet the audience for some of that content will be lower than the viewing figures for the shopping channel.
When I was at Holgate, someone’s parents had just got a new tv (black and white)! About six of us went down to their house to watch the cup final…….what an occasion then. Like others, didn’t know the cup final was today, or who was playing. Totally devalued now due to Sky, greedy clubs, and all the things about the game mentioned by others above.
You're right. Not many sides have beaten Chelsea in the FA Cup since we did and they was thirteen years ago. Now if we don't win the FA Cup I have Chelsea as my second team to continue it.
The first time I ever watched a colour TV was the Liverpool Arsenal final 1971. Charlie George with an extra time screamer to win. Went round to my godparents who were richer than us and had just got one. Was unhappy as I had wanted Liverpool to win that. Had to wait a few more years until we had one rented from DER
Interesting comment about today’s attendance on BBC News Attending 20k Leicester 6k. From that I have assumed Chelsea have 6k allowed leaving 8k others........ Food for thought when it comes to playoff final
I do hope so Helen. If I don't get a ticket for Wembley I'm going to kick off big style as S.M. does.... P.S. I won't kick off at all lol
Brilliant reading the stories about people watching it on tv for the 1st time. My mum n dad got married on cup final day in 1971, apparently, at the reception at the local club in the afternoon all the blokes disappeared to watch the match at someone’s house nearby. Like people have said, cup final day was very special, sadly no more, my 1st memory was Spurs v Man City in 81.
Do not forget Michael Parkinson, our greatest ever fan, tha noes. He will remind everyone of Skinner Normanton, the only player to play for Barnsley.
Well, living in Leicestershire, I can tell u, the rest of the country might not care but Leicester sure does. Shops deserted, pub gardens with outside screens packed. Can't really find a soft spot for Leics due to them being the first of the admin cheats, but u can't deny the city's enthusiasm.
That's good. Jamie Vardy becomes the first player to be in all rounds of the FA Cup from the preliminary ones too.
Sadly the only way to revive it at this point is to take a Champions League place from 4th in the league and attach it to the FA Cup
