I agree when I was a student in Liverpool in the early ‘80’s I went to a fair few Liverpool games and the odd Everton one Still went in the away end for the foggy Liverpool Barnsley tie and had absolutely no doubt who I was supporting.
For a few seasons I’ve been to watch QPR a few games a season with a mate of mine who supports them I quite enjoy it. It’s nice when they win but if they don’t I’m just fine my evening isn’t ruined.

Happy to watch and enjoy other teams on occasion but I only really support one.
I’m fortunate I can afford both the time and money to support Barnsley from 200 miles away

Does non-lazy reading involve running on the spot whilst you read the paper?

I dunno. Try reading Heat magazine while running on the spot. :)

I couldn’t answer that one - three years away in Germany 1990-93 during which I saw six Barnsley games only. I made up for that though with regular trips to the Bokelberg to watch Gladbach playing top level Bundesliga

Parky and Dickie are chosen to give their views. Because quite simply. Folk know of em. And it would attract more of the public interest because of that. I don't get this knocking our own cos they happen to be chosen. I am fully aware of his (Parky's) links to Mandaric. As most are. Doesn't mean We aren't his first love. I've seen Dickie on many occasion. At the ground. Season ticket holder. But his career wouldn't allow him at the time. To attend games. I see other personalities at games. I assume, work permitting.
I don't know if Katherine kelly attends games but I feel she cares for the town. Being heavily involved in the lamproom Theatre especially .( Which her dad I believe. was the one who started/formed it) I've seen her acting colleague Sean Dooley at games in london. A big fan of the tarn.
Allus comes up . this vitriol against Parky. (Dreamboy) When we are in the spotlight. Tbf a lot of good comments on this thread Jay etc. Saying how most of us see it.
Not sure why Terry made the comment he did on the opening post. (unless I misunderstood) But it's not how I read it.

Do you think he rang them up & asked for the interview ? no of course not , he will have been approached because of his background & the fact that although he is not my cup of tea ,he is a celebrity & I doubt for one minute that he has jumped on any bandwagon its just what happens with people in the public eye . I personally do not care for celebrities talking about my team but people make too much of it , ignore it or treat it with a pinch of salt but it is certainly no big deal & not worth getting upset about like some do

Is that a comment or a dig. ( doesn't come out clear) Genuine question. If it's a comment. Fair enough.(I apologise) I will see it as obvious as day follows night. and not an issue.
But you've probably missed the one he's done and broadcast already. Btw.

The idea that the Barnsley team consisted largely of local lads and miners in Parkinson's young days is something of a myth. Our team in the late 40s and early 50s included Irishman, Danny Blanchflower, Scot Johnny Kelly, Scot Jimmy Baxter, Irishman Pat Kelly and Chilean George and Ted Robledo, amongst others. Not to mention our record goalscorer, Cecil McCormick.

I did say as much further up the thread - other people can do as they choose. I don't believe in 'second clubs'. Others do, and that's up to them.

    But it's not for me.

I bought my son a season ticket from him being 7 to 13. He now lives in Berlin and watches every game on ifollow. Him and my grandson proudly walk round Berlin in their reds shirts. He facetimed me today and was bricking it over tomorrows game. Circumstances change, players and managers come and go but your heart stays where it was grown.

As a student at the uni of Essex in the late 80s I used to go watch Colchester United on a student season ticket with my mates, a Sunderland fan and an Aston Villa fan. We just liked going to a game. And it was pretty exciting - they were battling with Darlo to stay in the league. But I went to watch Barnsley whenever it was possible. I remember trekking over to the Midlands to watch the 7-0 defeat at West Brom, which turned out to be Allan Clarke's last game. That went well.

I’ve always supported two Clubs, and I didn’t chose either. I follow Barnsley because I was born here. They were the first team I was taken to see (by my Father - who was a miner!) and then I went on my own/mates from the age of 12. When I watch the Reds - it’s in my gut. I can physically feel the elation or the pain (usually the latter!).

I also follow Celtic. Always enjoyed seeing them on the Tele, having being introduced to them by Sam Leitch (ask yr Dad/Grandad). When I first went to a game at the old Celtic Park and walked up into this massive bowl of a ground with 67,000 people in it, it felt like I’d come ‘home’. Wasn’t rational, might have had something to do with the Irish background, I genuinely don’t know. It was just there. I can physically feel the elation and the pain (usually the former!).

I don’t feel the need to apologise. Barnsley and the environment I grew up in gave me my ethics and morals in life, Celtic only added to those. There’s always someone who questions it but I’m comfortable with it. Someone tends to ask who I would support if they played each other in a Champions League game. I say I don’t know until it happens but the way things are going I think Celtic might struggle to get into the Champions League!

Alan Clarke wasn't the manager for that game. He'd already gone. Eric Winstanley was in charge.

If I lived down South I'd watch Palace. My brother in law lives there and he's a Palace ST holder.

Every time I've been to Selhurst with him I've had a good time with the Palace fans both during the match and in the pub.

When Barnsley play Palace then it's obviously Barnsley.

Agreed. We had season tickets for Cork City, and was member no 17, when the fans took ownership of the club. It was the team I took my lads to every other week. Always did our best to get back to UK for 1 or 2 matches a season, sometimes away rather than Oakwell.

    It is possible.

He’s having a dig at the regular knockers of celebrities on this board .
Whenever Dickie or Parky are asked for and quoted in the press about BFC there’s a minority that berates them .
It’s small minded and petty when they are berated but it is what it is imo it won’t bother Parky or Dickie and it won’t stop the majority of us enjoying their contribution .
