Wife's daughter lives in Ambleside. We have stayed in Elterwater. Nice place but VERY VERY EXPENSIVE !!! As is the rest of the Lake District.
Golden Rule - get yourself in. The best pub in Ambleside by a long long way. Even better if you head straight in after doing the Fairfield horseshoe.
Looking on Google maps, Golden rule is showing that it's still shut. Although it says temporarily I feel it's not made it through this last lockdown
And me. Just back from 15 days up there. It was Keswick but not as I know it. Cafes and pubs closed because the weather was so bad it wasn't worth staffing them in case anyone decided to show up to sit outside eating and drinking in the pouring rain or there was nowhere to sit anyone outside. The fells white over with snow. Other than that I loved it to bits. Booths had some decent offers on for beer, Bryson's plum bread as moreish as ever and George Fisher's sold me a wonderful waterproof jacket which I wore to knock some more Wainwright's off my 'to do' list!!
Ahh excellent, you've still got it all to come then. It's great in that you go to parts of the district that you probably wouldn't otherwise and there's some gems out there If there's any info I can help with, give me a nudge either on here or by direct message. Out of interest any of the ones you have done that you particularly liked?
Nope. Went up the corridoor route from Borrowdale to Scafell Pike as far as the the Lingmel col and turned right.
Cat Bells - looking down on our campsite in Keswick. It was 2 years ago and it was then I decided my next objective in life would be to bag all the Wainwrights. Covid lockdown has kept me away from the Lakes since then.
When she was at the University of Cumbria, my daughter spent her second year at the Ambleside campus. She absolutely loved living in Ambleside.
