    my dad used to talk about him but i never saw him play but became an even bigger legend after his playing days,

    I never knew Eric Winstanley, but I've heard so much from so many people about what a great man he was and how he did so much for the people of his town. He doubtless shaped and represented the best of Barnsley, past and present.

    My deepest sympathies to you and your family . Your dad was a man who we all felt we knew even though many never met him. I had that pleasure many moons ago whilst training with the Northern Intermediates on the old Queens ground. He was such an imposing but friendly man who always had a smile and positivity came from everything he said to encourage us. A very sad and upsetting day I hope you find some comfort in the undoubted tributes that will come his way. God bless you all..
