This is for my parents house in Barnsley.

Ideally someone who has experience designing with the elderly in mind. Parents house is Smithies Lane, so fairly central.

There is a 7 month waiting list just for a consultation with someone from Social Services, so we need to look at going direct to a contractor.

    Thanks.

Get on at them. My gran went from 7 months to 3 weeks due to constant nagging.

Worst case is they'll pay your appointed builder.

My cousin’s bloke does it and got mentioned on here the other week. He did my grandma’s bathroom after she fell and broke her leg and it’s perfect for her. There are photos on the Facebook group if you scroll down to 10th Oct 2019.

If Social Services aren't available, are there any charities that could offer advice? Age Concern, Age UK, or similar?

My parents have a bit of money still, so I'm not sure they would qualify. Dad is in a care home & I'm hoping if Mum recovers from Covid we can get this done fairly quickly, as we'll need temporary toilet facilities, etc

Aquarella at Pontefract. Very good, reasonably priced. I’m waiting for them to start ours.

No advice on picking a builder, as I no longer live near Barnsley - but I have a bit of advice. Wetroom design is not all about shape, size and fittings. Choosing floor tiles is VERY important. When we had our wetroom designed for me (Disabled.) few if any designs or builds talked about floor tiles which are totally non slip, even when wet. There are now some really good tiles available, and they increase safety for people who are poor on their feet enormously.

Thanks for the advice. That is really important, especially for my Dad, if he manages to come home.

Our tile supplier made a point of putting the tiles on the floor, wetting them, and asking me to walk over them with a walking stick, angled to increase slippage. Very reassuring.
