That actually brought a tear to my eye, what a wonderful and fitting tribute to a great man. RIP Eric, once a red always a red!

Same here mate. I remember watching him when I was a kid and my dad first took me down Oakwell.

Lovely tribute and no doubt our media department will have much more on it such as getting in touch with old players for their thoughts.

Legend is a word that is often overused in football, but legend does not even come close to describing Eric Winstanley. Nearly 500 games for the Reds, many goals from CB, and most of all gave his heart and soul to the club for over 40 years. Part of the Promotion team in 96/97 with Danny, plus countless other times he stepped in to steady the ship as caretaker manager.

Today is a very sad day. RIP Eric

We've had some wonderful centre back pairings over the years and, even today, we have a full international in the ranks who is set to play for his country at a major tournament. Eric Winstanley and Pat Howard were the first pair that I had the pleasure of seeing playing together for the Reds and I'm sure that all of us thought that Eric would go on to play First Division football and maybe even make the full England squad. Sadly it wasn't to be, injuries holding him back, but his partner Howard went on to play in the top flight for Newcastle and Arsenal.

Eric was a colossus at the back, and he was pretty handy up top as well. The number of times that George Hamstead curling crosses found Winnie's head was uncanny and many of those crosses, usually from the corner flag, ended up in the net.

We've lost so many just lately but this one hits me hard as he was part of my growing up. RIP Eric the Red.
