That of course, is football. But surely you agree the word 'whimper' relating to tonights result is embarrassing?

I think Swansea did a job on us without being too much better than us.

That's true, and it's actually quite exciting. We're nowhere near the finished article as a lot of the players are so raw and inexperienced, and the manager has only had one transfer window. A year or two down the line and a few canny additions later and I think we'll be where Brentford are now, in terms of the players we'll be able to attract, the size of transfer fees we'll get for departing players, and the number of points we will be looking to rack up over the season.

This. But unfortunately it won't happen.

Also, although Swansea weren’t great, when they came forward you got the feeling they could cause us problems whereas when we went forward you knew it was going to result in a hopeful punt forward that would be easily cleared by their centre halves.

What makes you say that? Do you suddenly expect us to stop following the plan and dismantle the squad for peanuts a la 2017?

I don't think it will be peanuts but i think we will lose the cornerstones of this squad. I will obviously love to see us start next season with the same squad and manager but (and this is not a slight on the owners) I don't think we will.

I don't like Swansea and they annoy the hell out of me but I think if we look dispassionately at the Swansea team we'll see that they have quality through the spine of that team. I think that was the main difference over the two legs - their 3 Premier League loans signings and Ayew. I can't see them being able to afford that quality next season if they remain in this division and it'll be a joy to watch them struggle.

No, why would I? 'Going out with a whimper' is a recognised turn of phrase, a literary device to express disappointment after the highs that preceded it. It's correct. I think I used an alternative; damp squib - that disappointing firework that doesn't ignite properly at the end of an otherwise exciting pyrotechnic display. Both apposite expressions.

Long contracts mean bigger fees and bigger fees means a bigger budget. The whole team isn't going to be sold, and we have enough quality throughout the squad now to absorb any losses. The absolute worst case scenario I see for next season is if we do lose say 5 first teamers, is that it will be slightly transitional, like Wilson's second season was, and we end up finishing around 10th.

I suppose we will have to agree to disagree. I understand going out with a whimper is "recognised turn of phrase" I don't have any literary devices to express how you're wrong. But imo you are.

Would you agree that your support is whimperish ?
A literary device to recognise the lows of tonight after the fantastic highs of the season

To be fair, far fewer over the two games than I thought they would. The difference in the end was a couple of bits of individual quality which you’d expect from them considering the money they’ve spent.

Not sure that's actually a word, but if I understand your intended slur, then no, I wouldn't agree. Been giddy as owt this season; my support as strong as ever, and unfeasibly excited about my first season ticket since 1982.

Isn't that the thing? We've defied odds just to be here and finally we don't defy the odds and people are being negative.

    You're right I don't think it is a word :D
To support a team is exactly that though to support it.

Absolutely, but it doesn't prevent you from commenting on a game and how you think the team played. That's, er....football.

You're right, I think we're all just frustrated tonight, so very close but yet so far.
