Sounded extremely non-committal about next season. Hopefully he's just wanting to make sure he's backed by the board and that the entire team won't be sold, rather than seriously thinking about leaving already. https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p003wb32/clips
Let's wait and see. He's a step by step kind of guy so if he wants a holiday and to enjoy his success before thinking about the future that's fine by me. Not sure when his contract ends but he is still contracted to the club.I'd rather he didn't make any promises personally until he's had time to chill and see what the board are proposing for next season.
I haven't heard it but if what you are saying is true, or implied, then it's like groundhog day all over again. Coach waits to see what the board does to the team and acts accordingly. Is the revolving door starting to turn again?
Unless he gets a much better offer or his family don't want to move to the area then I don't see why he won't be here next season.
I’m no expert but it did sound like he would be off to pastures new. Being away from home and separated from your family can’t be great. His stock will certainly have risen from his success, I wouldn’t be surprised if one of our big transfer revenues this summer is big Val. I don’t think anyone would begrudge him a move back home, it would just be sad to see him go. Only 75 days to wait..
Think he wants to stay but he wants the board backing because he's probably confident with a bit more backing he can take us an extra step.
Thats what I took from it, he made reference a number of times about needing better quality in front line, about players etc. I took from both that and the Sky interview he was saying he was waiting to see what happens.
If we ge4 2 or 3 quality players obviously within our budget. I can guarantee you. We will be away next season. Big val obviously knows that too. Our cbs are probably up their for best in the league. Woodrow is up their when he can be arsed too.....let's keep the faith into next season utr
Sounds like he knows he's off. He didn't answer the question. Shame really as few knew of him before we gave him his chance, but we know from Football loyalty is thin on the ground. Hope he stays but Morais aside we've done well out of Hecky, LJ, Stendel, Struber and Val, so no reason to believe the next guy who they will already have in mind wouldn't slot in and do just as well as those before him.
I disagree. I honestly don't think there is a never ending stream of coaches ready to come over here to play the pressing game and each time improve our team.
On his way and most of us have realised that for a long time. It's the way of things at Oakwell. In terms of league position, he's off while his stock is high. Can't blame him - very hard to see him being able to match up to this season's achievement so now's the time for him to cash in. Val's style is not my kind of football, so for me personally I don't feel the same connection I had with Daniel S. I can afford to be philosophical. .
World Football has thousands of coaches to choose from. We moved to Head Coach from Manager so there would be less disruption if one of them left as their role is different. I am more worried about losing the likes of Helik and Styles rather than our latest short term head coach.
Pretty much my feelings. Apart from the Stendel bit. I personally no longer feel much connection to the ‘head coach’. Paul Heckingbottom knocked that out of me. It’s become a very transactional role. Especially at Barnsley. The strategy and direction of the Club is far bigger to me these days.
