Maybe not, but we've managed to pick up a few players for relative peanuts who've been outstanding, no reason we can't do the same with the keeper position.
Interesting opinions. Andersen, Helik, Styles and Woodrow are all contracted until 2023 so none are entering the last year of their contract and I think we have options of a further year on some too? Given Mowatt's likely departure I suspect that we may well take a harder line and seek to sell if players won't extend their contract but that doesn't apply as yet with these four. I guess that could change in January of any are signaling that they won't sign but I don't see it as yet. In which case we'd have to be willing to sell now and I guess that would require a fee large enough to support further investment in the squad. So what do we think would be an attractive fee for each?
Woodrow won't get any better than he is, in my opinion. If someone came in for him with £3m I'd take it. Styles, Helik and Mads I'd break the bank to keep those three, but if they were to be sold, no less than £10m each.
The whole point of the long contracts is to avoid the peanuts we received for Ethan Pinnock. Everything is stacked in our favour for the first time since the owners came in and this recruitment strategy started. When the offers start being made we’re under no pressure to sell for less than we value them at. I’m not sure how buoyant the market will be but I wouldn’t be accepting less than £6 million with serious add ons for Madds or Helik.
I don't agree. I think Collins is an excellent keeper, though I do think he should have caught the ball he punched, which led to Swansea's goal. His handling is good, his anticipation when coming out is excellent, he is good with his feet and is extremely cool under pressure.
I did say it was a controversial opinion. But I agree his handling is better than we’ve had recently, however it’s his starting position that he’s good at rather than being good with his feet. The cool under pressure is an interesting thought. I don’t see that too much yet as he’s still young and developing that commanding and composed part of his game. I think he sometimes looks the opposite of cool as this sweeper keeper role isn’t a natural one for him. He’s improved no end though and is a solid keeper.
There worth 10m and woodrow 3m i dont see that at all. Last 2yrs woodrow has played out of position or the style hasnt suited him but still managed double figures.if we plyed to his strengths he'd get 20 a season for me so his stock can still go up. None of the defenders can pass a ball but helik can score. Am still looking at styles as midfield but none of em are worth more than 3m.my opion.
Are you sure about Helik? Read on here that he's only got a year left, which I was a bit upset about! In any case if he has a good euros it would probably make sense to cash in. Much as I rate him, an international centre half for a serious European side isn't going to go for any less than £10 million, possibly closer to £15. That money will go a very long way, even if only half of it goes back into the squad. With our track record, I'm sure it'll be spent very wisely.
If he's in his last yr we'll be lucky to get 5m even if he has a good eros, most of the time we have a yr in our favour, lets hope so.
Helik signed 9th sept 2020 on a 3yr deal so he's 2 yrs left.it was his birthday i havent a link just asked google. Micheal helik barnsley fc contract.more important in my eyes morris is signed until 2023 but with a yr in our favour.relax helik can go eros have a blinder, get scoring lad, sell him and hey presto were in prem.
Be madness to lose both of our centre half pairing again, particularly if Sol is no longer with us either.
Save for Mowatt it completely depends on the level of offer that comes in. football is in a weird place at the moment financially. I am a bit more confident now that the board won’t accept any old offer it for our players. but if good offers come in for any of the players, they will be sold - that’s the model. a number of players will be subject to offers I am of no doubt - they’ve had brilliant seasons.
Two days after the season ends & we are full of speculation about selling players , I am sure that Val & the club will have a list of players they would like to move on but by the same token they will have a list of recruits they want to bring in, interestingly I have only read about asset stripping , we will see , certainly the next couple of months will be interesting.
For once we hold all the cards, so it’s time to start telling clubs to do one and come back with serious offers instead of selling for well under players value like we have in the past!
Yes, 3 year deal announced when we signed him: https://www.barnsleyfc.co.uk/news/2020/september/michal-helik-signs-for-the-reds/
Regardless of who comes and goes I'd like us to balance the squad up with two players in each position. Not only that the two players that are competing with each other have an equal chance of effecting the outcome of a game and not just filling a hole. Replacement for Mowatt and another two striker's that will play week in, week are a must. Then get rid of some of the fringe players.
So Helik is the favourite to leave then as this is the only Summer we can secure true value and his stock couldn’t be any higher. When a player gets to two years left on their contract it’s either new contract time or arrivederci. That’s how you get this model to work.
