That wouldn't surprise me as other teams defenders merely tap the ball back and forth for 2 minutes before playing a forward pass

I think the fans will get behind whoever the head coach is and the players. It would be nice if the Football was more pleasing on the eye though. It's not a case of this way to be successful and passing Football you're not successful. You can be both options of successful and good to watch.

This sort of comment reminds me of your Minority Reports, where in the early days of 'Val Ball' you kept hinting that the results wouldn't last.

They did last. Your reports didn't.

I hope they return next season. Always one of the best reads on the BBS.

I think we'll take the next step this season coming. The current system just needs a tweak. We must keep the press, we must stay direct - but the nature of that directness needs to become more of a mix between vertical and horizontal. You can be direct with long penetrating ground balls played out wide or through the middle but it needs better vision, running and execution. Our more attack minded players need to be confident to take on and beat the opposing man. We will need better passing accuracy and a higher risk appetite.

Most of our live tv games are covered by Sky who’s punditry has been appalling, Derby County last season, was nauseating. The waxing lyrical of the Swansea defenders before a ball was kicked. Compare that with the BBC punditry when we played Chelsea in the Cup.

We could always get Spackman back , have 90% possession and 10 million completed passes , all in our own half , and lose every week

my only problem with our tactics is there doesnt seem to be a plan B, like changing to a 433/442, when a team is nullifying 343 ultra high press, like swansea, flood the midfield then lump it long into the corners to try and get behind the back 3

Why would we do that? Do you think that's the only alternative? It isn't.

I'm getting more than a bit fed up with people assuming that anyone who suggests we could try to string a few more passes together means that we have to go wholly to a tippy-tappy play it out from the back system (a la Brentford). As if there's only two ways to play.

Goals will be cheered, missed passes will be groaned, wins will be celebrated, defeats and most draws will be complained about. If the team play well and look like scoring goals, the fans will get behind them. If they play poorly, that atmosphere won't be as good.

All this stands regardless of who the coach, or what the playing style is next season.

Whether Val is the manager or not, I think next season they will mix it up. The rest of the teams in the championship are fully aware of our way of playing this season. So going with the boxing adage “If they want to box then fight’em, if they want to fight then box ‘em.” We have a number of good young footballers to play a passing game and enough to exercise our ‘gegenpresse’.

We have done fantastic this season, yes there has been poor games and we have won some of them!,.....it has been great not fighting to stave off relegation so look forward to next season without putting mockers on it before it started!!!......Jesus we have just been a nats from getting in Premier!.......I for one have enjoyed being in play offs..... and as for Strubers style against Val,s, well we would defo have relegated under Gerard if Covid had not come along......we were pathetic just b4 lockdown in March!........

Good analogy that. Like Newcastle we were free scoring, but nearly as generous at the back.

That playoff final, the missed penalty by Barnard. OMG still hurts. Ipswich were a strong side, as 7 years in the top flight followed.

As much as I want us to win. And there has been some great football. I hope to god, I don’t have to put up with another Barnsley v Wycombe replay again.

I thought they were relegated after two seasons in the Premier League?

I love the way we play. We don't always play all that well within the style we adopt, but neither do Brazil within the style they adopt.

We don't give the ball away at the back, we don't give away silly goals, we win the ball back in the opposition half more than any team I've seen before, we turn defence into attack in a flash, we play ultra fast one touch football, we don't dive and cheat, more often than not we score more than the opposition and win games. There's not a single thing I dislike about our style of football.

We don't always perform well, but that has nothing to do with the style. There aren't any teams in the history of football that always perform well no matter what style of football they play. The bonus with our style of play is that even when we don't perform well, and even when we're up against a team that cost many times more than our own, we still often win.

How will I react when seeing it live? Like I've just found the keys to the brewery and the pharmacy and won the lottery.
