To be fair his arrival at QPR seemed coincide with their rapid improvement. I'm not saying that I want us to sign him or anything, but out of all the players available right now, we could do a lot worse (purely hypothetically). In any case, I think he's quite likely to join QPR permanently and I don't for a second think we'd even be looking at him.
Some recklessly managed mid-table Championship side *will* offer him 30k/week. He’ll take it and perform averagely. Said recklessly managed Championship side will fail to go up, then their fans will chat 5hit about how their points deduction for FFP/admin is soooo unfair. At least that’s what I’m used to in the modern game.
I forget his name, but weren't we willing to pay 2m for a striker last summer? I think he chose a german side because he didn't fancy a relegation battle. We are a different proposition now to any potential recruits.
In all fairness QPR were one of the form teams since they signed him on loan in January and he scored 8 in 21 games. Not saying we should sign him but he is still a very good player at championship level. Wouldn’t be surprised if he signs a deal with QPR fir next season
I’ve forgot n’all. But the biggest issue now. is qualification to be able to play in this country. Most of our targets now will probably be removed from the list. But I think the way we develop players and the stability of the club in comparison to so called bigger clubs. Will attract the better players (in leagues 1and2) to come to us. I believe we will close the gap in wages. As so called bigger clubs take stock of the damage caused by unsustainable running costs.
I hope they do sign him. I hope all these sides continue to recruit in the fashion they are accustomed to.
My personal preference is for us to continue signing players which produce comments like "I've never heard of him" , or "I don't know much about him" from me!
I would have him in a heartbeat. Wages will drop now due to his age. His interviews suggests that he's a top bloke. Still think with our energy around him he will see of the final blows
Our strikers need too many chances to score. Even the manager said it. Frieser, Adeboyejo, Chaplin & Schmidt don’t have 20 goals a season between them. That’s not enough by any standard.
Quality that Chaplin Freiser and Adeboyajo don't have. If he was within our wage budget he could be the finisher that we need.
I was replying to "The work rate of our attacking players doesn't generate anywhere near enough goals though." I beg to differ. Their work rate as a 6 man unit has created enough goals to get us into the top 5. How many goals they individually score is an entirely different matter.
Makes you wonder why Val left him on the bench in our most important game of the season if he's as prolific as Austin then? Maybe a good question to ask big Val
