We've enough options in his position.

    Ward-Prowse should be in.

So we just refuse to play friendlies because a player might get injured? It happens. You play football and there’s a chance you pick up a knock, but Trent would want to play in these games to try and force he way in the Starting XI.

I could say let’s ask Saka if it was worthwhile.

England goalscorer Bukayo Saka speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live:"Probably the biggest moment of my career so far, the biggest moment was getting called up for England the first time and now to score the goal it sounds nice, it's an amazing feeling for me.

Disagree entirely. So what if they played in a game of football last week? I did a 12 hour shift yesterday and had to do another one today. My employer didn't say nah lad take a week or two off you must be sleepy. God help them in the euros, what are they going to do? Play the opening game and piss off home to bed for a week?

And honestly of they aren't willing or able to play two games In a week (a feat that an average player like Alex Mowatt has had no problem doing for the last year near enough) then they should be prioritising their country not their pathetic clubs who have literally just tried to enforce this bi weekly round the world trip on them anyway.

This isn't an exhibition game where fans should be lucky to see anyone play, it's a key part of the extremely limited preparation for the world's second most important football tournament and pissing about like this is not only disrespectful to anyone watching tonight but to the entire nation in the harm it does to the preparation.

That’s fine. You think it’s worthwhile. I’d say it’s pointless. He knows his squad but plays(even if it’s beyond his control) only a handful of players. What has he learnt vs the whole season and vs tonight’s injuries in to quote you - “a kickabout”?
I don't think Saka scoring in a kickabout is really worthy of comparison to another player being ruled out of a tournament.

Comparisons with jobs like ours are always poor analogies. It’s not about them not being able to play week in week out, it’s about what gets them to play to their best.

Going to contradict myself now, but I know I’m always better at work if I’m giving a break or a rest or take a holiday.

Glorified kickabout in the sense that the result wasn’t important but bedding in ahead of the major tournament was and playing in front of supporters was. He’ll have learnt something about those players on the fringes of the squad. We could have three or four players break down in training this week and they might all be called up.

It’s not that I fully understand it or agree with it, but it feels like we’re getting pretty wound up about something minor and that is fairly explainable.

You are but then it was a friendly. They didn't need to be at their absolute best they just had to be on the pitch learning the system. Getting a feel for each other etc. Sitting on their arses while some lad who isn't even going is running around instead is just plain stupid.

It really isn’t plain stupid. They could have played, but I’m sure the science and the people who are actually experts in this stuff and paid to do it for a living would tell you they’ll be in better shape for the next month by sitting that one game out.

Should have played Accringtons squad then, then the 26 we take will have been even better prepared.

The worst argument ever made about footballers. Ever ever ever.

'I work all hours me, so they should be able to do two games a week, bloody pansies'.

It's like comparing me doing 35 hours in an office with a week darn t'pit.

They're elite athletes putting their bodies under strain. Most international footballers will run about 10k in a match. That's not jogging either, it alternates with sprints, various directions, twists and turns and tackles. It's why muscles tear and ligaments pop.

It needs to be managed to allow for recovery if you want performance at the highest level.

Why has a member of site admin created and posted an identical thread to mine?

    Wound up?
Commenting on something that appears daft does not make me wound up.
If anything, I’m struggling to raise an interest in the whole thing. In fact the Tv was only in because the kids were out. I would have missed it completely because I didn’t know it was on.

I was outside and speaking to a neighbour. He said he was going back inside to watch the second half. 'second half of what?' was my reply.
Had no idea there was a game and even when he told me I stayed outside weeding and I hate weeding

Just basing that off your first two or three posts and the fact we’ve two threads with a similar tone about Lingard. Might have interpreted it wrong but you didn’t seem too happy at first glance.

Doing a training session for staff at work today on some new software we've been developing. Instead of inviting current staff I've invited staff who previously worked for us. You never know, they might come back and I don't want to over exert our employees. And I'm fk*cing mental.

Yes, overwork in software development is a viable comparative.

Also, as a firm, do you have legal obligations to check for and provide protection against eye damage, RSI and posture problems for those working at a computer all day?

What doesn't work in this analogy is that you forget it's up to you if they come back and not necessarily them. You'd be bringing in staff that have a chance of working for you in the future and then the whole comparison reads completely differently.

Are you suggesting that the fa have a legal obligation not to have players play two games of football in a week? That's the euros ****** then
