It's not that they don't 'chime' with mine, it's more how I can't really deal with constant and consistent negativity. It gets a bit tiring. Nothing wrong with the update, regardless of the potential motives behind it, as it keeps fans informed and positions the club in a positive light after one of the best seasons in our history. The feedback from supporters in this thread is almost unanimous in that opinion.
I can relate to those views Loko. The saying goes that it's the hope that kills you....but on here at times the "constant and consistent" negativity comes close. The pot was boiling re not getting Dike on board. It was boiling without people knowing all the facts. All of a sudden the goodwill which Dane had been instrumental in building was misplaced. We had been mislead etc...... Now we have the facts from Dane re Dike there are still some who are incapable of giving the lad some positive comment for keeping us in touch. He can't win. He'll never convince those people otherwise. For obvious reasons there was less negativity aimed towards the manager, coaching staff and players last season but rest assured the knives will be sharpened and ready for the slightest **** up as we go into next season. That's the nature of football fans and their forums I guess. Plus ca change.......
I found the statements to be a true reflection of what's happening in general throughout football. (Most clubs will need/have to examine their own finances. Or go to the wall in vain attempts to reach the promised land) If someone comes in with substantial offers for our players. Or clubs from the premier for example. enquire about some of our players. Then it's the right and proper thing to discuss it with those players. Or it becomes unsettling to both. Lay the cards on the table so to speak. And take it from there. A thoughtful and honest assessment of where we are at. I thought. I fail to see where most other clubs could provide a better insight as to what their strategies are. They make sweeping statements that in most cases are, at best, remote possibilities.
All sounds very positive and Dane is a very eloquent communicator. After such a fantastic year let’s just hope the club can build on the success. With the finances of many of our rivals under real pressure the approach adopted by BFC may reap further dividends. Whatever happens I’m looking forward to being back at Oakwelll next season.
Think Dane might learn not to go around saying hey “we’ve got a deal we can afford for a player” and not agree terms with the player again. That’s naivety, he said that’s Dikes stats had been off the charts when it came to getting him so surely we should have always wanted him from the outset so I can’t really understand why we didn’t try and agree terms on a perm deal from the start. I think the true test will be the outcome of the Mowatt deal he’s talked about that being a positive outcome for us for nearly 12 months now.
Suppose so same as always though, I've been a barnsley fan a long time players and managers have always moved on. I just liked listening to the positivity.
It’s only positive at the time of decision or result though. If you’re positive but then wrong, and that repeats over time, things will quickly turn, especially in Yorkshire.
You are talking with the benefit of hindsight , if we had agreed a deal at the outset as you suggest & he had turned out to be a duffer then the club would have dropped one , he came here as a rookie & with no real experience certainly at championship level , so it was a gamble for both player & club & both parties hedging their bets was probably the correct route to take , it has turned out well for both parties , we got a player who helped us get to the play offs & the player gained experience & put himself in the shop window for a bright future. I wish the lad well & hope he has a great career & to the club I say well done , well done for spreading our wings & bringing in a talent to do a job at a specific time when it was required .
Not when you proclaim his stats are off the chart and make such a fuss of having a fee agreed etc & then considering we don’t loan players anymore and have a recruitment process that identifies players etc.
So many different scenarios to this outcome that we are not privy to, here’s just a couple as an example: Dane says within our reach financially: 1) We have an outline of an agreement with the player in January, but the player/agent decide he is worth much, much more than originally agreed and try to negotiate a deal not within our budget. 2) The coach has decided he wants a much more clinical front line and the reality is we can’t afford that and Dike, so DD was sacrificed. Not saying any of these are even close, just using as examples of it may not be as black and white of the DM being wrong with his statement.
I repeat hindsight is a wonderful thing , also from the off the club said they had an option to buy, option being the key word ,they never said they had a done deal, but there can be numerous reasons why a deal has not progressed & I believe the club have done nothing wrong , at the very least they have communicated with the fans & this is something that did not happen often in the past
Is anybody excited as to who we're bringing in this summer? After last season even if Mowatt leaves I'd be excited to see who is replacement is going to be. It's about moving forward. I was impressed with the statement.
If those words are backed up by positive actions, then it’s all good. Classy touch to recognise the ones in the back room who actually manage the Club day to day.
I think this is the real point. It's how good the next 'wave' are if we part with existing players for a good fee. Murphy is kind of signalling that in the background. It would be handy to do it like Brentford, where you sell a Watkins for 28M and buy a Toney for 10M. But Matthew Benham is prepared to tip in as a Brentford fanatic, whereas we are more of a purely business proposition, and obviously on a much lower value scale.
I'm pretty happy regarding recruitment. We just need the "waves" to peak in the Championship. Unfortunately the summer 2017 recruitment peaked in League 1. The summer 2019 recruitment nearly ended up peaking in League 1 too. That's in the past. Thankfully we stayed up in 2020 and we have a decent squad that only needs tweaks.
I can’t see us ever and not that we should anyway breaking our wages structure in the same way they have. Unless we start selling our players to premier league teams and I honestly don’t think we have one player that a prem team would want anyway.
