Mowatt's at his peak now. The key in finding his replacement will be signing someone whose peak is when they have two or so years left on their contract.
Over the past few seasons, when you look at players who have also left us for so called bigger contracts money wise, the only one’s for me who’ve kicked on is Ethan @ Brentford. Ok, Moore had a decent season just gone. All rest just warming the bench. I know for me, I’d rather be playing & feel wanted/appreciated by the club I was at.
"Dad, forest want to sign me." "No way son. Scabby b'stds". "But dad, They've offered me £20k per week more than any other club. On a 5yr deal and a £500k signing on fee" " Come on son. I'll drive you there. Allus liked Cloughie"
Or would you rather go somewhere else/anywhere else for 3 or 4 times your current wage and know that after 4 years you'd be financially sound for life?
Presumably with how confident Dane seemed we've offered him the best deal we could and the club are wanting to talk some more. If he leaves after that fair enough.
Absolutely, surely the spreadsheet has come up with some names. I’d be surprised it they haven’t planned for him going. That said, the club might think we have adequate replacements already. I don’t think we have, but what do I know.
My favourite part of this thread is where someone says Ritzmaier wouldn't have been loaned out if he was good enough. Ignoring that Alex Mowatt was loaned out to Oxford and came back to be our best midfielder by a distance.
You'd hope we had a 24 year old box to box midfielder of the Benrahma ilk lined up if we're using a similar system to Brentford in identifying targets. I was thinking the other day with them going up a notch would some of the players earmarked for them in the Championship come our way instead?
True, it’s always gonna be the case. I don’t think if we pay £10k a week is bad either. Nearly half a million a year without any performance/appearance related bonuses. I’d hardly call that a crap wage. I’m sure the vast majority of normal folk could set themselves up for life with that. You’re right though, money certainly talks when it comes to footballers
He'll have made some decent coin whilst at Leeds didn't he win an award there for 3 years running? He must have been on a good screw.
No, you're totally right, in any normal job £10k a week would be an insane amount. If I could pull that I'd be giggling like an idiot every day!
Think so. Even by our meagre wage structure compared to others in the Championship, they’ll be on a good screw... We’re not gonna break the bank though are we... A mean, Hristov is still our record signing ain’t he? I find that astounding in this day & age.
