And also someone who is top end championship/premier League quality whilst at that peak...... Mowatt is a mid table championship player at best. This is where the spreadsheet gurus need to earn their coin.
8 goals, 7 assists, from a position playing deeper than 3, sometimes 5 players. Captain of 5th placed team. "mid table championship at best". Staggering.
Not sure it was; the reason we managed to sign him was he’d lost his way a bit at Leeds, I think we gambled that the move would shake him up, but he was clearly not on his best behaviour when he got here. When he returned from the wilderness under Daniel he knuckled down.
Championship team of the season? How on earth did a ‘mid table at best’ player manage that? I despair sometimes how fans see our team.
In my opinion Mowatt doesn't have anything he excels at. If you look at all the attributes of a top end championship midfielder can you honestly say he's: Got vision? Good at passing? Good at shooting? Good at tackling? Got pace? Look at it objectively and he's average, he's had an outstanding season in a team of outstanding performers. But if you took most of our team and put them in a top end champ squad they'd probably end up making appearances from the bench. He's been excellent for us, but I'm not sure he'd be excellent elsewhere. I'd prefer him to sign up with us again but if he goes I think we can replace him.
He’s a really important player for us but he’s not irreplaceable either, I’m surprisingly confident that if he doesn’t sign then the board will have someone in mind. I still believe Kane will be an excellent player for us.
Does anyone think Mowatt will stay then? Depends who's in for him right. If one of the big spenders comes in for him it'd be tough to keep him, but I'm guessing we're offering him 10k a week to stay. Fingers crossed! It'd be a huge signing to keep him.
8 goals and 7 assists this year was it? I think they're good numbers for a CM - he's not playing number 10 here. What midfielders have we had who are better at shooting and passing? In the last 15-20 years... Hourihane and Howard? Even Drinkwater was only better at passing - he only scored once. There's not many championship midfielders outside of the top few teams that I'd do a straight swap for. He can definitely improve his long shots and free kicks though.
Yeah, and I highly doubt any top champ team would swap what they've got for Mowatt. I hate these types of conversations cos it makes me sound like I don't like the guy! I'm just being realistic.
No. Your comments like :- "Got vision? Good at passing? Good at shooting? Good at tackling?" Make it sound like you don't like the guy. Woe betide any poster on here who passes compliments about him if he were to leave!
Everyone is welcome to say what they like about any player, past or present, just as I would hope I'm ok to give my opinion as well I don't berate people for having a different opinion as me, but I'll definitely try to explain my viewpoint.
He as been a solid pro for us. If he decides to leave to make shed loads of money , he as my blessing. Much prefer him to stay with the Tarn, honestly cant see us competing with wages offered from elsewhere. However as a few posters have already mentioned he will be replaced with another hungry young footballer . Sadly we are a revolving door and will always be that to stay solvent.
I didn't say you couldn't take criticism. For what it's worth, I believe Mowatt can score pass, tackle, shoot and has vision. He is a natural leader and a top notch midfielder, captaining a Championship Play Off team and club. He's a popular player with both Barnsley fans and the supporters of other Championship clubs. I find people's necessity to criticise him says more about them than him. Truth be told I find criticism of our players difficult to understand after the season we've just had.
