I was also at that gig. Went with Sparky. Tbf it was never going to be AC/DC as we knew it. You had to accept that it was always going to be different. And if I’m honest I thought Axel did a decent job. Mostly all the older songs possibly because they suited him better. Also first visit to the Etihad and walked on the pitch so not all bad.
I saw them in 76 at the Top Rank in Sheffield , in 1980 I saw them in January with Bon Scott then in October with Brian Johnson both at the Mayfair in Newcastle , the January Bon Scott gig is in my top 5 gigs
Yes, I saw him 4 times in all. Last time was Leeds Irish Centre. A DJ mate of mine put him on, I'm guessing 2003? There are a lot of stories from that gig I can't share on here.
Idles in Belfast. Seen them a few times now, but the Belfast gig was something else. I liked Arctic Monkeys the first time I saw them in about 2011, but thought the Vaccines who supported them were incredible live too.
I never met him myself. I think after the Irish Centre gig he was banned from the UK for offences. That was a good gig, but the band had to fill in for the first hour, as he went missing in Harehills.
I saw the Mondays a few times. In their pomp at Birmingham NEC, was the Thrills, Pills tour, with Donovan supporting. Saw the Farm at Leeds Poly about 1990? Everyone on stage for a cover of Police & Thieves at the end. I never saw the La's, although I saw the bass player's band a few times.
I think it was the whole evening that turned us off to it. We were up high to the left as you look at the stage. Maybe there was a speaker fault as the sound was terrible and we had several very drunk ‘ladies’ behind us who kept spilling some sort of fruit cider down our backs! We’ve seen them many times including at Donnington and they were brilliant every other time. Although Wembley 2009 was a bit blurry due to too many foaming ales!
I really couldn't pick one gig and say it was the best one. I'd have about half a dozen for different reasons, feelings
In fact to reply to my own reply, The New York Dolls in Buxton sounds like the best Vic and Bob sketch that never happened
Never got to see Bon live, my sister went to the Sheffield gig not long before he died. It’s her one claim to fame.
Well we were across the pitch from you looking diagonally across to the stage. Not sure if I was in the main stand or not. Like you lots of the day was a bit of a drunking haze. But very nice stadium
