Will Swansea find next season a more difficult one than the last few? Their parachute payments have come to an end. Ayew is leaving. All their loan signings have returned to their parent clubs. Money will certainly be much tighter for the club. After saying all that (and taking into account my pathetic record of predictions), they'll probably run away with the title now! https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/57343256
I saw this earlier. Hardly a surprise to see Ayew leaving with the alleged wage demands and they've only lost a handful of others, so still have the core of their squad, loans aside. I wonder if they'll largely do the same again and try for high quality loans to plug the gaps? Will be interesting to see how the next two seasons pan out. If transfer markets return and if we see an easing of the wage bubble.
I think many clubs in our Division are financially fkd and will have a very difficult season. Those clubs that are reasonably financially stable with a fan base/manager (like Val) /owners working together will do alright.
Cooper didn't sound sure if he would carry on either. He probably wouldn't have have looked happy or they'd won though!
Due to the huge cut in finances they face, I was wondering whether they may have to sell some of their better players?
Ayew Woodman Geuhi Hourihane Routledge All done at Swansea. Roberts and Grimes in the final year of their contracts. Cabango attracting interest.
Routledge been offered new contract. Not sure if that speaks volumes of their capacity as a caring club given his service and injury etc or situation they find themselves in playing wise
He still had pace, but even if he loses a bit due to the injury he would be a useful player for most teams in the Championship.
I think you're on the money, Mr BL. My early idea for the top two slots would be Sheffield United and Fulham with their Year 1 greasy palm payments. Much will depend on the Summer signings/retentions, but Fulham have been there or thereabouts for a few years now and United are reputed to have a good setup below first team level, which along with the new manager, which may assist.
I think Bournemouth and West Brom will be strong as well. Cardiff seem to be operating with a similar wage to turnover ratio to us, not sure if that's including any parachute payments boosting their turnover. If not, then a full season under McCarthy could see them challenging.
If we carry on how we're going I think we'll become a viable option for players wanting to be guaranteed a wage as well as a chance to further their career. Imagine us and Derby going head to head for a player and the player thinking "well Derby are a bigger club but I'll sign for Barnsley because at least I'll get paid there". I can see us returning to the Premier League by default if we stick to our guns. Or am I reading too much into the financial situation at other clubs?
Bournemouth expected/hoped to have got promoted at the first attempt. Dont expect Woodgate to be there next season. They are carrying a lot of big wages and also players who may wish to move on. They will also.be without Jefferson Lerma for the first 6 games of the season due to an FA charge of biting an opponent.
You might not be far off with that suggestion. I would at least think Barnsley can attract as a stable Championship club in the near future
I'm with you on this one however I think next season is going to be unpredictable as I expect a lot of clubs will look to cut their cloth accordingly. If Fulham keep Parker then I suspect them to be strong. Obviously, West Brom and Sheff United will be expecting to figure though both will be under new management and that could hinder any immediate return to the Premier League. Other than that, I think it'll be pretty open and I think we'll be in a decent position if we manage to keep a solid core of players from last season. I like the data below which gives an overview of loan players during the last season - unsurprisingly Swansea's reliance on loan signings is significant.
before you decry your own prediction record, here's a favourite prediction of mine,,,,, "Theses mobile phones will never take off." Beat that!!!
