I’ve had a Civic for the past 8yrs. 2.2ctdi engine. Absolutely hands down the best car I’ve owned post boy racer days Never had a thing go wrong with it & only replaced the usual consumables. Superb car. German or Jap, the rest are Crap.
It was cheaper to get the Cupra than the bog standard 1.5 diesel version, pay just over £200 a month for it on a 2 year lease, thinking about extending it as it's due to go back soon. The leasing companies buy them cheap, had one pinched that was 2 months old and the balance on the finance for the insurance to pay was £17,777, the car rrp was £31,000 so you can see how much discount the lease companies get on some vehicles
Like you I've never been into cars , I generally buy a fairly new one and keep it forever hence not owned too many cars but I have had an Astra and a Focus which were ok but I bought a Volvo V40 last year and it is by far the best car I've ever had and not too expensive either.
Got a golf last summer to replace octavia written off by my youngest . Love driving the golf like no other car I’ve had. Very old boy racer, got some fluffy dice, no faster stripe. Yet. if you forced me to be sensible I’d have to confess that vw sure know how to charge for parts.
We had the Volvo XC60 and it was a great to car to drive and was comfy, better than the Audi Q7 we had
I've had 3 Octavia Tdis from new, just a golf with a bigger boot and costs less. Great cars. Currently driving an Audi A3 e-tron plugin hybrid as I wanted to go greener. Miss the Skoda to be honest.
Have a look at the Mazda 3. I've had one for nearly 10 years with no problems - essentially it's a Focus underneath. Like you, I'm going through the same rigmarole at the moment and I'm looking at getting the same again after research.
I mainly use Select Car Leasing with whom I bought the first Cupra from but by the time I was ready to buy the 2nd after the insurance had been sorted I got this one from Nationwide. Can't say I'm a fan of them, customer service wasn't great. I just missed out by 24 hours getting the Volvo S90, the big one, It was £190 a month. Volvo had put it on special but then panicked cause loads took out the deal not thinking anyone would bother with it. I'm not too fussed what the car is as long as the deal is ok, only have them 2 years. Had the Polo GTi last time, that was only £175 a month
I've just looked at the new Mazda 3 cause I like it. It's a 2 litre engine with crap bhp, even the 186 isn't great, like a bit of oompf from 0-60. Don't know why the engine size is so big to be honest
do you have your own space in club car park?, always liked driving Fords myself, any fiesta titanium be a well equipped good drive
Have a drive in the top ones mentioned, that is if you are the one thats going to be driving it. Ive only ever bought one car without driving it - a Ford Mondeo Estate- off ebay - and it was disappointing, cos it was knackered.
I prefer smaller cars so have a Mazda 2 and absolutely love it. I also love that, as you say, it’s basically Ford parts and so they’re dead easy and cheap to source. My car is really old now (13 years) but didn’t have a single advisory or anything for the first 10 years, really reliable car and will definitely be looking to get another. I did see something that said they no longer share parts though so may not be relevant for new cars.
As a few others have suggested, have a look at a Mazda, specifically the new Mazda 3. I traded in my 2011 Golf for a new Mazda 3 earlier this year, and it's been superb so far. Only real downside is there isn't a massive amount of room in the rear seats, but as with such things it's always a trade off. I deliberately avoided buying European, for obvious reasons.
I've got a Volvo XC60 and it's an amazing car. The price of new ones is absolutely through the roof though, which is putting me off trading it in. Might go for a new XC40 instead, as don't need such a big car this time around.
