Will there be a Jury involved or is it just the Judge ? Can't remember all the details but was the incident caught on CCTV and were there any witnesses? In these sorts of cases can the 'victim' choose not to give evidence at a late stage in which case the trial wouldn't take place ?
I’m aware it’s a fairly lightweight assault, I’d just expect a judge to see it as typical behaviour for a bloke who’s stock answer to stress is violence.
Happens all the time , will Barton agree to be bound over , yes end of it , no Barristers get together can’t be arsed going through a trial Judge playing golf at 2pm , dropped
I must just be unlucky, all the cases I've helped to prosecute have ended up in a full trial barring 2. They went guilty on the day and were given no leniency at sentencing. 1 was only 34 days ago.
Correct me if I'm.wrong but I thought there was a sliding scale of cutting a sentence based on how early you plead guilty?
Can’t see him pleading guilty unless there’s footage of the assault , hopefully it goes to trial and he’s found guilty
Is this an opportune moment to say people really should read the Secret Barristers first book, Stories of the Law and How It's Broken; it’s a cracking read. And his new book Fake Law is just out in paperback, it’s about the way the law is reported in the tabloids and the principles being shattered by this government.

Some dodgy reporting there. Reads like Stendel was sacked for being a failure (misses the promotion) but Joey heroically failed to keep Bristol up last season and is working to improve the team.

https://stjohnsbuildings.com/people/ian-goldsack Looks like Daniel has a decent barrister himself, though.
Yes there is, however many judges of a certain age don't like being played like mugs. Looks like the defendant's got quite an expensive chambers on the case. Fingers crossed CPS haven't over reached on the offenses he's charged with, obviously the witness statements and evidence will tell us everything in the next few days. I think many people will look at previous incidents and then make a decision in their minds on the balance of probabilities. However its all about the beyond reasonable doubt, hopefully the evidence is rock solid.
Surely his ‘previous’ is not admissible? Can only hope that at least some of the jury are aware of his reputation.
I would have thought it would form part of bad character evidence but may be wrong. Previous offences relevant to the current charge...
