I'm against discrimination generally, but it makes far more sense to discriminate against people for what they DO (or don't do) rather than say; the colour of their skin or religion or where they come from.
Re the last chapter jay. Not trying to catch you out. But it obviously will apply to some. Genuine question. If it becomes mandatory to prove you've had the vaccination to Holiday abroad. Would you have it. If not yourself. Any others on here. ?. Bear in mind I don't know if you take foreign hols.
Yes, someone I work with. He hasn't given a proper reason other than, he doesn't have to have it if he doesn't want it. Essentially, I think he's the sort of bloke who doesn't like being told what to do. Oh and he doesn't think Covid exists, despite having to cover shifts for someone who's died from it.
It's a very pertinent question mate. That's one of the things that will seriously make me consider having it. Another is if the vaccines get full FDA approval. Another is the amount of time since I had the disease. Another is the older I get the more likely I am to have it, just like the older I get the more likely I am to have a flu vaccine. And yet another is the longer these vaccines have been around, the more data we have about their safety. I'm not saying I won't ever have it. Just that as of now, I haven't had it.
I understand where you're coming from there but often people are effectively indoctrinated into their religion so it's hard to say that it's free will, it's ingrained.
How come you’re worried about FDA approval? Not a wind up, genuine question. The American food and drug market is a funny one and they approve quite a few things over there that we don’t over here (and vice versa I’d assume), so just curious why approval in the States would affect your decision (unless you live over there, in which case ignore me). On the OP’s point about 1 in 10 not having had it, 90% is a pretty good take up, and most of the 10% won’t be rabid anti vaxxers. There’ll be lots of people who can’t have it for whatever reason, some who can’t have it at the moment due to ill health but plan to have it when they can, and a sizeable number who don’t understand why they might need it (which sounds daft but if you don’t read or watch the news, don’t have internet access, and/or are somewhat disengaged from wider society all the Covid hoo-haa could easily pass you by). If you add all those up you can easily reach 10%.
There's also some won't have it because they are here illegally and are scared of being found out and deported.
Some people will be unable or unwilling to travel to a vaccination centre. When it first started, the centres were Sheffield Arena, Priory Campus or Wakefield - a minimum of 2 buses each way plus a decent walk which isn't always possible or affordable. Now, the nearest centre that I know of is Wath followed by Rawmarsh - both 1 bus and a decent walk. Sometimes, the mountain has to come to Mohammed - host vaccination centres in areas with low take-up and invite all adults in the area to drop in. Have some capacity to counsel those who are scared, nervous, etc. Maybe even go door-to-door in advance to make sure people know about it - in multiple languages. Ignore any citizenship status. Publicize through the Mosque, Church, Synagogue, schools, pubs and other community centres.
I'm not downplaying the seriousness or saying Bill Gates will control me if I get it, but as a healthy bloke in my early 30s I'm in no rush to get it. I know what not having it means, but I don't yet have the full picture as to what it might mean over the long term if I do have it. On the balance of risks I'd prefer not to have it for now.
You can also say exactly the same about the disease. We don't yet have the full picture of what it means over the long term. Whether the short-term deaths are just the tip of the iceberg or the full effect.
At this point I'd actually be sending out trained people door to door around villages offering vaccinations at home. They do it for census data
I don’t know of anyone but that’s mainly because I wouldn’t dream of asking anyone about their personal medical treatments because I’m not weird.
It comes up in conversation, it’s not like I’m just walking up to people and asking them straight out. I can’t think of a single person who hasn’t mentioned at least one thing about it. It generally goes: Person A: I got my/booked for my vaccine last night Person B: I did mine last night too Person C: I’m allergic to an ingredient so I asked my doctor and they said don’t have it Person D: I’m scared of needles, I’m not decided yet Person E: I can’t wait until they call me up Person F: Bill Gates isn’t tracking me!!! Person G: I heard on the radio that they are doing under 30s now Etc. etc.
