When I was 16,I wanted to look like Chrissie Hynde & play guitar like Jimmy Scott. & then did for next 20 years.
Years since I’ve heard that, just gone and downloaded 3 of their early albums to my Apple Music. When my BiL bought his first hifi, he bought 4 albums (had hundreds of 60s &70s albums at his parents house) Pretenders Pretenders II Outlandos d’amour Regatta de Blanc I used to lend him albums and he used to get some from library, but for a while (till he got the rest of his old albums) those albums were a regular listen.
Interesting fact. That’s my Stratocaster. Girl wanted to borrow a white one to match her dress. For top of the pops. Connected somehow, sound guy, I think. They sent a kid up to me in North London & it came back later that day. With a bottle of champagne.
Reminds me. Angel Music, started at Angel Islington, you’ll know it from monopoly board. It moved to Denmark Street. My pal Andy Hackett ran it & I would pop by when in town. Had my Ellie there one day. & had a go on a 50 year old Gretsch. Lovely guitar, way beyond my pocket. I have a go to tune, when in guitar shops. ‘Shake some action’ by the Flaming Groovies. Long story, short. Kid from Busted was there. & signed a 3k cheque for that guitar. I told him to go away & learn that song & make it a hit. My pal Chris, who wrote it, could do with the royalties..
