Sibbick had glandular fever during most of his spell at Hearts. He only played 2 games. That loan probably had as much of an impact on him as his stint at Oostende.

He'd gone back to training. I think it's more the lift of having a manager believe in you.

Wherever he goes/ if he goes, hope we include a sell-on clause as an in-form Luke Thomas would tear league 2 defences a new arsehole and decent bids would soon follow.

Hope he stays another year to reevaluate. I think there’s a decent player in there.

I wish him well in or at whatever vocation he chooses or at whichever club he finds himself. Also in his fight against mental health problems.

If he’s still got mental health issues I’m not sure moving a couple of hundred miles away from family & friends or even abroad is a good idea.

I’d like to think if we were looking to loan him to the lower leagues it would be a fairly local side like Mansfield or Scunthorpe

Can see him going to Bristol Rovers, he's from Gloucestershire so would make sense for him to be nearer family, particularly with recent personal hurdles. Really hope he gets a move that suits him.

Didn’t realise I thought he was born in the Derby area & had come through their academy. Fair enough then Bristol makes sense

i don’t disagree, but I do often think we largely neglect the mental wellbeing of very young players and the very unique pressures they face so early in life, Thomas’ situation should be a wake up call that it goes beyond money.

Some would say lockdown is character building, for anyone else that is struggling, do we ignore those that need support and help?

There is usually a sensible compromise between nothing and everything. BFC are the employer here, not a surrogate NHS.

Footballers for example tend to get everything, almost in a literal sense, then can't cope with the real world when football ends.

Don't lay on everything in the first place. The more normal they live, the less likely they are to go off the rails.

The less damage they have when it's all over.

Lockdown is character testing, certainly, for some.

And for those who can’t cope? What do you do, let them sink?

maybe, but I don’t think shipping them to a different country is likely to do that.

Didn't seem that Toby was very happy at Oestende.

Oh I don't know. I wouldn't mind someone shipping me to Crete for my hols. Not that BFC would "ship" anyone off willy-nilly anyway.

I'm probably going on about this topic a bit too much cos I know a footballer who recently retired through injury and there's a bit of a tale to it (with little of Tosh's self help involved).

    i'll shurrup now.

everyone is different, and a holiday for a week or two in a place geared up to English tourists is far from someone moving to a place where they can’t speak the language and have to ply their trade. Let alone one who found Ipswich a bridge too far just a few months back.

I understand. I'm aware from your previous posts that even good old Barnsley and its environs would probably be a bridge too far for your own good self.

But you never know - he might love it abroad and I'm sure you're not suggesting that BFC would force him to do anything he didn't want to.

I’ve been to Barnsley many times, odd comment, but you also said you were off, hey ho.

I expect all to have a duty of care, especially to our very young players. That you’d not concur with that sentiment is curious, but it’s your call.

Where some thrive, some sink. Everyone should recognise that.

You may point out to me where I have suggested that BFC have no duty of care to their players. Or that they would not wish to exercise such duty. Or that I would not wish them to have such a duty.

Also, you may well have been to Barnsley many times. I can remind you of what you think of it after visiting, if you wish. It's the same place that's better for Luke Thomas than France, but apparently not good enough for you. I didn't say I was off anywhere apart from wishing to go on holiday. I live in Barnsley and will not be moving. When the sun's out on a day like this, it's lovely.

Anyway I wish this player the best and hope that he gets to a standard where he can play for us again. I hope that BFC help him as best they can in this regard.
