What is Silverwood trying to achieve with the batting unit at test level? I get that we're trying to reign in the ridiculous Trevor Bayliss tactic of go out and play almost like an ODI. However, some of the players seem caught in two minds about how yo play and that ultra defensive chase in 4th innings of the last test was shocking viewing.
We're paying for the years and years of focus that has been put on the white ball game. We're now left with a batting lineup with only a single-player averaging over 40, and a bowling attack that only has a short time left ahead of them, with no obvious successors in sight. We're almost back to the dark, dark days of the late '80s early 90's when we were a complete joke.
Totally agree, but this batting line up is even worse then the dark days, India and Australia will be worried that we won’t be giving them much of a game getting thrashed by a New Zealand A team. That’s why I’ve stopped going to watch the test side, it’s not taken seriously, and why should I pay 60 quid + to watch this embarrassment?
