If anyone wants to see herons in Barnsley the small pond at rockley by the road leading up to the campsite is home to at least a dozen permanent heron nests and you may see anything up to 30 herons roosting at one time. From there it's a short walk to The C0ck Inn and The Travellers, both of which have an excellent selection beers, lagers and real ales on tap. The food at both is superb, one a bit fancy, the other traditional pub style but all home cooked. Both have excellent beer gardens.
Are people denying Barnsley is a **** hole? All things considered I would never choose to live in Barnsley. How many lakes fields and woods are in Barnsley town centre? if you want green within half an hour, with Kent and Sussex on your doorstep and so many lakes and rivers, worlds your oyster Just because people are used to perceiving Barnsley is some unknown haven of paradise... doesn’t mean you can’t be open minded to see that other places have more going for them. It’s fine for your own ignorant opinion to be wrong, I completely accept that. the food and ale really isn’t up to scratch in Barnsley, but it’s all subjective so I respect your opinion that you sadly think it is. Barnsley fans slag off another town, yet can’t take what they throw... there’s a shocker! My last 5 dialogues with locals I didn’t know in Barnsley have resulted in racist bigoted xenophobic views that I didn’t ask for or welcome. There are some good people in Barnsley. There are also some vile scummy people there too. That’s not to say such imbalance is local to Barnsley, but at this time, I’m very content keeping my returns to my home town to a handful and not increasing them. I spend loads of time roaming London, in my edgy bohemian areas in particular, and that’s where you get smiles, conversation and new experiences galore.my simple standpoint is I couldn’t live the same life if I was imprisoned in my home town. I’d find the best I could get from it, but it would be lesser than what I’m now aware of... and I fully accept there are other places I’d gladly live that aren’t where I live now. Kingston is a fabulous area as an example, but I suspect my next move if not out of the UK, will be Bristol in time
Gloucestershire Live are reporting this evening that "Bristol Rovers clear favourites to land signing of Barnsley winger Luke Thomas" Link
"But a combination of geography and the chance to play under ex-Manchester City, Newcastle United and QPR midfielder Joey Barton's management look set to sway his decision in favour of the Memorial Stadium side." Grrrr - anywhere but there, then.
If its nearer to home and family maybe that's the best thing for him right now, a step back to hopefully move forward through the leagues
We are willing to do business with Joey Barton? Not good. He would rather drop two leagues than just one? Baffling. With it being just a loan it shows how little cash is about for transfers.
There’s one small lake and woodland quite close to Oakwell, where the Dearne Valley starts to open up. There’s plenty of green surrounding Barnsley in less than half an hour. We’re almost on the edge of the Peninnes. So a ’handful of returns’ to Barnsley qualifies you to state that the food and ale isn’t up to scratch. I’ve never moved out of the Town and have never felt ‘imprisoned’ by it. Keep away there’s a good chap
You need to read from the start mate. I nearly fell into the same trap. Don't think Jay was the target. The response threw me. as to it didn't make sense. (unless I've made the error. Its been a long day.) Was a spat on saturday. I think GGP was quoting another poster. Hope so anyway. Well meaning response though..
I left home at 19, I've lived in Colchester, Salisbury, Edinburgh, and currently Portsmouth, I can honestly say I would love and one day hope to move back to Barnsley, every town and city as its compliment of idiots, some more than others, if the towns and cities were bodily parts then for me ( IMO btw) Portsmouth would be the fart pipe, when we go up north my wife always points out how green it is and she finally admitted that the people are actually much friendlier ( which she thought was just a figure of speach kind of thing) we all have our tribal feelings towards where we are from ( even if they are 5hit holes) but the only way imo to judge a town or your town is to have lived elsewhere but tbh their isnt that much difference ( other than cost of living) btw i stand by my comment, Portsmouth is a 5hit hole ha ha
Do you really expect us to refuse to do business with a club just because Barton is manager? I’d have been absolutely shocked if that was the case.
Idea.......... Get Chein to put a £20 million price tag on him. Buy him at Nancy for that and pay himself with his own money and keep it all. Gets us round FFP a bit easier and nobody will ever find out. Genius. Wonder if any other clubs have ever overvalued things to try and break rules. We could be market leaders.
I hope he goes somewhere that makes him happy and he rediscovers his love for the game. Good luck, Luke.
