Not ideally no. I don’t think fans would take to them. Ideally I’d want someone young & in the mould of our last couple of managers who have a clean slate when they come in to the job. I could certainly see Hecky working at the club again, maybe on a short term caretaker basis or something like that after a manager takes a better paid job & if he does well he puts himself in the frame for the full time job but if I was him I’d stay at Sheff Utd with the U23’s. Stendel’s a bit different as he’s obviously German & has family there so I don’t know if he’d take a short term gig.
Of course they were. Jumped ship just before they were due to win the league and could have risked everything!
I don’t think it is fair to compare a possible Stendel return with the Clarke/Wilson returns. Both these two cut their managerial teeth at Oakwell and only returned at the very end of their careers. (Incidentally it is worth remembering that the foundations of our 15/16 double Wembley winning team were laid during Wilson’s section term.) Stendel’s career is still very much in front of him. Would I have Stendel back. Deffo. Will he come back? Unfortunately I very much doubt it. He falls a few months short of the minimum qualification requirements experience wise. The only hope on that front is if the time he has already coached in the UK pre-qualifies him.
I cant see hecky coming back here he hasn't done great since leaving us took leeds from play off chasers to relegation form in his 1st full season at hibs he won one in 11 had one of the biggest teams in Scotland 2nd bottom he got the United job by default short term because they were doomed and wanted to appoint at the end of season. I imagine he will go back coaching the 23s at United. I don't think the fans would take to hecky with him going to Leeds and his negative style when he put his own stamp on things. Stendel like you say is also unlikely with him been german i think the fans would be okay with it but I wouldnt like it rather just remember the great season we had under him.
Do you honestly believe this? That second spell was nothing short of a disaster and the football was some of the most painful I've witnessed in my time as a Barnsley fan. Can't be many managers who have two spells at the same club, were they are so extremely different for so many different reasons.
Very much agree with you. Danny was given the poisoned chalice of having to make something out of one of the worst groups we've had that were added to with dreadful acquisitions, some with terrible attitudes and then had to reassemble something from the carnage a league lower. It was the very start of a change of approach and as it turned out, we had some very good players, but we were starting from scratch. As for Stendel. I'd have him back in a heartbeat. It's not going to happen though, so i'm not going to waste any energy on considering it. We'll get who we'll get. If they are any good, we'll likely be here again next June/July. If they are ok and keep us up, we might have them a bit longer, if they are rubbish or can't settle, they'll be gone too. Just the way it is.
Thats how I saw it conor, scowen and winnall were identified by the James cryne and "the spreadsheet" Adam Davies was brought to the clubs attention by then goalkeeping coach mark crossley. Wilson went on record after leaving saying that he wasn't a fan and didn't agree with signing just under 25s he wanted experience he got his wish with lita, turnbull Keith treacy. The football served up was some of the worst I've ever watched in 25 years if not the worst.
Footballing wise yes it was a terrible time and I would have been astonished if he had survived that last home defeat to Fleetwood. When I say foundations I seem to think that Winnall and Hourihane plus others were brought into the club during his second spell. Wilson certainly had an eye for spotting talent and I have always liked to give him the credit in the acquisition of those players. Whether that is misplaced or not I don’t suppose we’ll ever really know
Since leaving us he has won EIGHTEEN games of Association Football. Of course none of that will be his fault ....................... a massive no from me.
Intra-Company Transfer, should be possible no? Its how the IT folk come in from the foreign service providers is it not?
Absolutely not. He gave us one of our best seasons ever but really got found out at Championship level and I have every confidence the next head coach will be as good as every other one apart from Morais, who is the only poor appointment since moving from manager to head coach.
If anyone was found out it Conway as CEO. He chopped the legs out from under Stendel. Daniel and the current quad would be a brilliant combo
Yes Danny was a different bloke second time around, very cautious and obsessed with not losing.i remember one pre match presser when we were facing the mighty Swindon away, who were just a few places above us at the time He said basically we'll try and hold them for 85 minutes and then who knows,we might even try to score ourselves. Gave us great memories first time round though so can never take that away from him
