Soft spot for that fascinating European state. Next to last Mrs C was from Gdańsk. Like Mira Sevino & Rachel Riley had a baby with a head strong attitude.
You certainly share some interesting tales..... but I'm not sure I want to know why you were sniffing the harbour in Gdansk!
At Royal Academy, ten years back. That’s one of mine in the background. Nice lass, her son Gustaw is great too.
I've had several really positive experiences with the Polish. I shared a story a few years back when I lost my wedding ring at Wroclaw airport and the efforts the hotel staff went through to find it and get it back to me were just unbelievable. Some special people out there.
I can't say I noticed to be honest, maybe they made special efforts when they knew you were visiting ;-)
What a waste of Helik. He might as well have had a rest with his family than gone to the Euros to watch his country let in lots of goals and still not get a chance.
Joanna told me interesting family stories. Never knew her Grandparents. Not a Jewish family, intelligencia. Writers, journalists, musicians. Middle class. We found stuff out. Her paternal Grandfather took his son/her Dad to hide in Berlin, of all places(?).. the boy Was returned home to Gdańsk after the war. His Dad was untraceable, resistance fighter, likely died. Other family, murdered at Treblinka. Joanna, did find some cousins, who filled in the blank history.
The experience of being in camp at a major international tournament is something I'm sure he'll cherish and build upon. It was an enjoyable game tonight, just a shame the Poles couldn't grab that key goal in the final few minutes.
Maybe if Helik had been on theyveouldnt have been caught napping at the end for Sweden's winner! I'm sure he's gained loads from the training camp and being part of the squad which hopefully will benefit BFC!
If you’ve Polish heritage you often have no past. My old man only told me he came from a “place that didn’t exist where everyone was dead.” The Sikorski Institute in London is worth a visit. It’s where the people with no past try and piece it all together. I met a Scottish woman there. She told me she’d visited Warsaw and found the street and a marker where her grandfather was shot for being a member of the Home Army (Polish resistance fighters).
J yes, mate. That was the main source. & the Jewish Holocaust history centre in Camden Town. Who keep records on everyone. There were work/ concentration camps outside of Gdańsk. It was a former Prussian province. That’s why the Nazis took them to Auschwitz & Treblinka. Joanna knows more than I do..
