Russians have previously sent battleships up the English Channel for no other reason then to say "FK U" and to try and intimidate us, I'm guessing we're just returning the favor

Nothing new , afters from the whole Ukrainian debacle . I don't know whether the Crimean annexation can be classed as legitimate or not . They did happen to have a referendum and I don't blame them from wanting to secede from Ukraine which is a complete basket case of a country . It seems yet more over reaction from the BBC as per normal . It's as if they crave war and conflict and can't wait to report it in a context to promote as such .

    A fair call .

From 3 years ago , exactly the same scenario it's just this time there happened to be a BBC journalist present to spread the " news " .

So you can’t answer then, instead you have to make it sound like those who are questioning it are pro- Russian. You need to look at our current Govt and is supporters for comradeship with the Russians. The question is and still remains why is one of our Naval Vessels in that region and with a news reporter on board. This is a very Boris Johnson- esque reply/attack on those who are simply asking legitimate questions. Off you pop now to knock one off to the Telegraph/Mail/Express

Why would a news reporter want to be aboard this vessel then? He could be aboard others that are freely sailing International waters. I’ve already said why I believe it shouldn’t, as it can be seen as antagonising the Russians in disputed territory/ waters. Can you tell me a legitimate reason why it should be there and for what reason? If your answer is because it can, and/or it simply has a right to then there’s little to say except enjoy the willy waving because your taxes are paying for it

The Russians are not the bogeymen we make them out to be. Putin, clearly a ruthless operator, is not the bond villain our media like to make him out to be, either. He's a calculated and shrewd operator who continually outsmarts leaders in the West. He operates just like any other large power leader would. The US is guilty of much worse behaviour than the Russians.

When the Soviet Union fell, the new state was on its arse. They had no means to defend themselves. They couldn't afford to put planes in the sky. Yet, US and the UK continued to fly into their airspace with live nuclear weapons on board. What were we deterring?

It seems if we do something, it's fine. If the Russians do something (a nation that despite not being a credible threat to the West, is continually sanctioned, has continued to be encircled by NATO despite end of the Cold War and guarantees NATO wouldn't creep past Germany) then they're inherently evil looking to revive the Soviet Union. The US and UK start several illegal wars on dodgy evidence across the Middle East leading to millions dead and it's swept under the carpet. And we backed Al Qaeda in Syria because we're so hell bent on trying to trying to remake the world in our own image we will do deals with the devil.

Leave the Russians alone. We will need them in the future.

But RE the initial posts. Things like this happen all the time. Again, fine when we do it. There was mass hysteria than an Iranian ship was making its way across the Atlantic a few weeks back. Because one Iranian ship possesses a huge threat, obviously. It was travelling in international waters, completely legally. But we've always got to have a bogeyman and abandon logical thinking.

It's got some beautiful cities, particularly to the West. Lviv is lovely with some stunning architecture and wasn't overrun. A very decent emerging craft beer scene too. Very european in feel and culture. But it is a big country and varies greatly region by region.

So it's ok for "not the bogeyman" Putin to assassinate Russian citizens in the UK with radioactive poisons, ok for him to specifically target and then barrel bomb innocent children in Allepo ? (I suggest you watch the White Helmets documentary around that-it's grim watching)
Putin is a murdering thug reminiscent of Stalin, and an ex-member of the KGB
Furthermore the UK did not back Al Qaeda in Syria
The US and UK did not fly into Russian airspace with live nuclear weapons-at any time
Russian aircraft and ships routinely encroach purposely into NATO airspace including the UK, and do carry nuclear weapons, though they claim they're dummy warheads.
Putin is a master of media manipulation and deception, hence some people thinking he's a jolly good fellow
In fact along with Li Keqiang of China, Putin is one of the most dangerous men in the world
The UK is merely reminding Putin that we can also play games just as he does

I suspect that your post will not be considered a correct answer to the original question posed.

Energy wars . Ukraine was the transient country for russian gas to Europe which then became politically unstable with threats of turning off supply in Ukraine . This suited the US as they were investing heavily in fracking and wanted to supply Europe with all their lovely gas . Russia's reply to the unrest in Ukraine ....

    https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/...ream-2-sanctions-and-nato-expansion-kdnb7z96q .

Nordstream 2 which effectively pipes it straight to Germany , bypassing ukraine . Meanwhile the US fracking companies are in huge trouble .

    https://www.bloomberg.com/news/arti...ws-basis-of-boom-debt-debt-and-debt-quicktake

Whether the US meddled in Ukraine politics with EU help remains to be seen but to be in complete agreement Russia are not the evil empire as portrayed . Just another power doing its thing within its sphere of influence .
