    Big Val?
    Dane?
    The spreadsheet?

A coach doesnt have the same clout as a manager so it may have been decided elsewhere but it wouldnt be a pleasant thought to think that yet again the coach left due to being told what his playing staff were going to be.
It's now in our dna, as you say, rinse and repeat.

I don't think that's the reason he left, all our coaches are "head coaches" and not managers. Seemed obvious he was leaving in the interview after Swansea.

This idea seems to go around every time our head coach leaves. The signings are identified by a recruitment model (or the spreadsheet as its often referred to). The head coach is asked what position they want to strengthen, and is given 3 names. Dane has gone on record to reveal this process a couple of times.

The head coach must be aware of this before he signs, so the notion that Val, Struber and Stendel have all left because they don't have full control over signings, is a non starter. Struber and Stendel both said they didn't feel they were getting the right backing. Val never made this suggestion though, he's obviously left to further his career or obtain more money, or both.

I think you are putting 2 and 2 together & ma king 10 , the Cole signing will have been completed within our recruitment policy, nothing sinister & hopefully he does the business.

I have absolutely no doubt that Devante's current form was well scouted by the board and that he was recruited according to spreadsheet data. With the system working pretty smoothly now, it barely matters who next season's coach will be, as the recruited players will fit the structure and have data which confirms their performance levels. In that way, it doesn't much matter who recruited Devante. I fully expect that the board will appoint another manager who will be committed to carrying on in the same vein as Ismael. We should be in an even better position than last time, as we finished in a play-off position. Some of last year's touts, like Hannes Wolff, will no doubt re-emerge, but I think that we may well land our first choice this time. We'll see, but I am confident that this board know what they are doing and will already have got things moving. Incidentally, well done the board on holding out for compensation up front for Ismael, if that's what did happen. Shows a good, robust and professional approach.

I can think of 25 thousand reasons a week why Val joined WBA and not one of them is because we signed Cole.

That's wasn't the case with VI tho was it. Dane said that He was in constant contact with VI even tho he was on his holidays regarding transfers.. also Devante Cole said VI had spoke with him and was impressed by him.
Plus why do some people think that transfers are done in just the one rigid way.. what Dane said will be true but not all of the time..
Who do you think identifed Dike.. the spreadsheet or Dane? I'd say Dane 100%.
If anyone thinks that losing both VI and Dane together won't affect our transfer activity then good luck thinking that way because it most certainly will..

Would have thought given her background it could even have been DM Wife, either way unlikely to be spreadsheet.
Edit, just read an article where it is confirmed it was Dane, he and Dike played at same place, so DM was hearing good stuff about him before he went to Orlando.

Barnsley Head Coach, Valérien Ismaël, was pleased to bolster his squad so early in the transfer window, adding: “I am delighted that we have signed Devante. He is a player with lots of ability and has shown that he can score goals. I am confident that he complements our existing philosophy and style of play.

“It is important that we continue to progress as a club and getting this deal done so quickly is a clear indication that we intend to be competitive next season. I look forward to integrating Devante into our squad when we return for pre-season later this month.”

Thats what Ismael said on the transfer at the time. Same as its been for years devante was probley highlighted by the recruitment team and then val had a look at him and the final say.

Just cos it's in writing doesn't mean he actually said it.

The first part of your post is essentially what I've said in mine. We identify players through whatever model we have, and put them to the head coach for the final say.

Of course it won't be one rigid model, but I'd say the majority of our signings will be identified that way. That's what our owners have bought into, its why they bought the club. James Cryne has been developing this model, and they're giving him the resources to improve it.

As for Dike. It's anyone's guess. Dike fits the traditional spreadsheet signing, young and probably undervalued considering the league he was playing in prior to us signing him. Dane previously said he wanted to bring MLS talent over in his time here, but I'm not sure that means he's picking who he wants.

Murphy is on record saying he was keeping tabs on Dike as the played at same college, so was made aware early on of his talent.

Fair enough. Although I reckon, considering what we know about 'the spreadsheet', he was probably on there too.

It is a monstrous lie to suggest that James Cryne picks the team
