You are right, each coach did employ his own system, but they all employed the press. Schopp seems to allow the opposition to have the ball and employs a low block. As you said earlier, we have too many centre-backs, too many forward players and not enough central midfield players to transition to a Schopp system without significant changes of personnel, and therefore significant expenditure. and upheaval.

I’ve seen his formation as 4-2-3-1 which, when you consider that we are VERY likely to lose one of the CBs, leaves the squad looking fairly balanced. Obviously new signings will be needed, but they were needed previously anyway so that’s nothing new.

We didn’t sign Liam Kitching to not sell a CB. Not in my opinion anyway. It’s the layering we’ve all been crying out for rather than Summer upheaval.

Really? Which of our 6 muscular forward players do you see as converts to be midfield players, and who do you see as our lone forward player?

I think Morris and Frieser, especially the latter, are suited to that system. When you play three in behind one striker you’re less isolated up front and get more support, so Woodrow as our top goal scorer could be brilliant in that system. Doesn’t have to be a target man anymore.

Whilst Chaplin has flattered to deceive at times, his stats are good, and all managers have used him in a winger/forward role throughout his career.

Big Vic would naturally feel surplus to requirements and you’d of course have new recruits. Why do you talk like the squad now is the squad that starts the season?

Agreed. Our board will have had a list for ages knowing Val would be going. Win at Cardiff and we will be Schopp and running. I just hope he is here long term and doesn't use us as a Schopp gap for another team.

As you say, we will see, but your description sounds very much like Ismael's fall back 3-4-2-1 system that frustrated me so much at the end of last season.

He’ll probably want to change things around a little, so there’ll be some Schopping and changing

Not sure it does, or at least that’s not how I’m intending to describe it. Looks like this system involves an actual number ten so nothing like Val’s system. If a number ten plays then you’re lone striker doesn’t need to big and hairy, which gives Woodrow to go on and have another fine season of scoring goals (with the ability to drop back in to the other roles as well).

All speculation at the moment like.

when my missus goes out for a new outfit, she’ll spend hours going from store to store trying stuff on, but always ends up going back to the first Schopp
