I think Vic has the makings of a centre mid . Loves the battle, get stuck in.. good engine. Just not a striker.
Not sure on that mate. He’s hardly the most mobile to be going up and down the pitch, turning quickly, being nimble, and his touch can sometimes leave a lot to be desired. I like him but I think he’d be an obvious casualty from a change in formation and tactics. But he’s proved us all wrong once before so I hope he does it again.
I'd hope Solle would have a word in his ear about pissing about a the back. Something he more than anyone put a stop to
Just been looking at Mr Schopp's formation and style of play. The 4-2-3-1 he plays could easily revert to a 5-1-3-1 in defence and 3-3-3-1 in attack. In the past 14 months we've learned our players have heart and are seriously fit. I also think we have some technically gifted players, these skills weren't allowed to be showed readily under Val's system. It got to a point where some plays never looked up and just hit it into areas of potential danger or to nullify an attack. Against Bournemouth we showed we can still play a high press and deliver measured passes and crosses. Schopp seems like to counter press and be more measured in his attack. Basically less blood and thunder. If we revert back to 3 subs I think this style of play will be needed over a marathon season. Again I don't think we'd need to tinker with the squad too much. Woodrow would thrive in this kind of system. Same with Morris and Cole, it also gives players like Halme, Moon a chance to become starting holding midfielders. Palmer would also get the chance to be the link in midfield, his energy and passing are very good. We'll make further additions I'm sure but I don't think Schopp will struggle with the players we have. The other thing is teams figured us out later in the season, it would have been interesting to see if Val had a plan to evolve. We'll soon see at WBA.
Not too concerned about formation, if it is 4-2-3-1, the only difference in personnel that I can see is swapping a centre half for a number 10. And from our centre halves last season, Kitching can play left back and Sibbick/Halme/Moon can play defensive midfield. The biggest issue will be expectation. Whoever we bring in is highly unlikely to be as good as Ismael. We finished 5th in a season when finishing 15th would’ve been a good result. And I’d take 15th again next season
Hopefully fans will just support the team and let them settle before making any judgements. I do think with a proper full pre season it'll benefit us and the new gaffer. I'd be disappointed with 15th if this team stays together. I think Covid and the financial issues will at some point be issues for many clubs.
I don't think we should assume that just because Schopp played deep, defensive counter attacking football at his current club that he will do the same here. I never understood the logic that managers have one way of playing and that's it. They have styles, sure, but Schopp's club were semi professional, terrible by all accounts, and it sounds to me like he played the style of football that he believed would have the best chance of success given the players and facilities he had. To me that's versatility, adaptability, and a lack of stubbornness shown by previous managers (cough Struber cough) who stick by their 1 formula regardless. Our owners are no mugs and have stated repeatedly we play pressing football, they won't go out and hire a guy who doesn't want to/can't do that. Trust the system. Trust the spreadsheet. Trust our lord and saviour Billy Beane
Much as I admire Victor's attitude, I don't think he has anything like enough skill to play in central midfield in the Championship.
Let’s face it - I think the majority of us simply want to see maximum effort whatever the system and hopefully winning football. Formations of any kind can be either positive or negative.
What about them lads & lasses in the high-viz jackets that fail to stop fans running on the pitch every season? Schopp-stewards??
After three years in Hartberg, Markus Schopp became an Englishman at Barnsley Markus Schopp is supposed to switch from Hartberg to Barnsley in the English second division and take his assistant coach Alexander Marchat with him. taken from this article and put into google translate: https://www.kleinezeitung.at/sport/...kus-Schopp-wird-nach-drei-Jahren-Hartberg-ein
I have to admit that I am never really sure what formation we are playing at any particular time so much of this thread is above my head. Like to see a win though however it comes about.
as much as i liked big val he was a bit of a one trick pony, he never seemed to have a plan b for when a team sussed us out, swansea, derby, weds etc
Disagree, he often changed, sometimes it just doesn’t work out. Was really looking forward to him being in charge this coming season as I believe there was more to come.
