No the first iMac was in 1998 it was the big monitor with the coloured back and a computer built into it
Not really no. Wrong time. There were plenty of ideas like that around that time. I went to an Orange Developers Code Camp in Florida around then. Location based services were on the horizon for launch and Orange were one of the first mobile companies to provide the apis to partners etc. The taxi use case was discussed to death there. The big problem at that time though was that there weren't many people that used WAP technologies or had capable phones. It wasnt until the iphone launch in 2008 that triggered the smart phone revolution and the subsequent proliferation of smart phones that made services like Uber feasible. There were other taxi apps before Uber as well but they didn't take the approach of letting anyone be a taxi driver quickly by using their own car. The other big factor in their success? The $24billion dollars of financial backing from the various funding rounds has allowed them to undercut local taxi firms. That cant continue forever though.
Hate to admit it, but I think Supertyke is right. The first iMacs were the big bubble jobs.a design icon, apparently.?
